plans for
t urism
office
by Pat Livingston
With the completion of
Phase 11 of the Lucknow
and District ' Sports
'Complex, our four cora.
aunities now have .; a
Tourism Office. But =what
do we do with a Tourism
Cfftce.
That is a new subject
for , thelLucknow
District 'Chamber of
Comineroe and one that
will takesome intense
planning over the next few
weeks.. How often should
it be open? Who will man
it? Plans are to have
something in place for the
May long weekend.
One idea the Chamber
is bouncing'. around is to
access one of this cotnmu-
nity's most valuable assets
its senior citizen popular
tion.
The Chamber of
Commerce will be mailing'
letters to local groups that
involve seniors- asking if
they would be interested
in helping on;.a volunteer
basis.
Anyone wanting further,

information, can . contact
the Chamber president Pat

The motion tabled by the.
board until the February
meeting stating that:the
IHCEE would continue to
offer the program only if
there are no additional cost

'defeated.
Trustee Norm Pickell felt
the board should commit for
the 1996-97 school year and

MPP Janet Ecker is present-

ment has developed a com- r
mittee to review the JK pro-
gram, headed by Ecker, and
is not expected to report for
possibly another year.
Pickell also felt that with
grant timing of January,

cut- it • out again in
September." ,
-"If we continue the proo-
gram for 1996-97, it will.
not put the board at Finan-,

adding that he hoped for a
report on the government's
review of the program a
year from now when the
board can Make further
decisions for 1997-98, "It's
a decision you have to make,
on faith; you don't know
and i don't know,"
Carroll also dispelled the
rumors of a user fee for •IX...
Tn December,the ministry
and government said there
would be no user fees for,
JK, he said. He added,
though,; that user fees may
be in a board's interest and
