Units 1 and 2 of the Luckn United Church 'Wooten
met in the church parlor on Jain. for"the first meeting of
1996Ella 'Hackett .and Phyllis Morrison were in charge of
the pet . lick program, following the. theme New
Year"..
..Phyllis opened with a ,verse to A New Year followed by.
a hymn. Ella read Verses: on °n: new, year emphasizing stow
we should dat; , to go forwards with confidence, good will
and make 1996 even better than the year just over.
¢ . , Anna May Hunter read the scripture from St. John's first
chapter,. followed by, Elia giving the meditation on making
the best use of our time. We all Bove talents, she said, and
we should use them to be good servants of the Lord. Allene
Wadley offered prayer and another hymn was sung.
Several titeinbers took, tarns reading articles with good
advice or thoughts that we should remember all through the
new year. Shirley Bolts reading likened the. new year to
door opening for us, as the old, one closed,. behind us, with
all the mistakes and- omissions to be forgotten; We should:
go through. the new door with confidence and assurance to
'do better.•
Mary Loth shared The New Calendar with mernbe*s and!
Anna May read Take Tulle to Think and Act. Responsible.
Ilion Leraoine, Noma Campbell and Carolyn Menary par-
ticipated as well.
Elsie Houston .played a piano instrumental" 'The
Entertainers" as well as accompanying the 'hymns.
Phyllis read from the UCW Mandate about Reverse
Offering. This is a custom carried out in the Steinbach ,
United Church in Manitoba,Sinoe 1989, the first Sunday of
each month, a slip of paper is.removed from, the offerl g
- plate as your own offering is placed: On this paper is the
name of ,a food item, you may bang one of the ;next three
Sundays. At the end: of the mouth, you have a table .flowing
with groceries for the Friendship }louse that the church
supports. Moue read an article on the new hymn book..
Ella read another article and this was followed by .a hymn,.
lunch and fellowship.
Allene presented the new list of members, The gaits then
divided to conduct their election of officers»
Muriel Coutes will be the guest speaker at the joint
meeting of all UCW units on Feb. 6.

Unit 3 of the Lucknow United Church Women gathered
in the church parlor on Jan. 2 for a potluck program. The
new president,, Jane Treleaven, read a verse Life Is a Gift to..
be Used Everday.
. Anne Anderson and Mary Lou Irwin conducted a short
- devotional with Mrs. Irwin reading scripture. and Mrs.
'Anderson the meditation.
`MarY Boyle , read Bikini and Marshall Islands for the
Fellowship of the Least Coin
The balance of the program consisted of readings,
'hymns, information on the new Hymnals, prayer and a
piano selection -by" Elsie Houston. Everyone told what. they
enjoyed most about their Christmas.
Mrs. 'Treleaven announced that. the UC' ,general.. meet-
ing will be'Jan. 30` in the church, parlor with refreshments at.
7:30 and the meeting at 7:45 p.m.

Margaret Collyer, was hostess for the January meeting of
the South Kinloss Women's Missionary Society when they
gathered, at Pinecrest'Manor: Nursing Home.
The devotion was given by Nancy Maclntyre and mem
bership fees- were paid to treasurer Doris MacKinnon.
.Rollcall was answered with Wilma. Clarke playing a
piano solo, some gave readings and Ruth Bell sang ,a solo
accompanied by Wilma. w
The bible study was taken from Mark 4 - Parable on the
message of the mustard seed. It was given by Mrs. Clarke
