Full scale
recycling
pro anis
Student enthusiasm about
recycling and a generous provin-
cial grant mean fall -scale
recycling programs will be
launched in 15 Buce . County
schools in the spring.
A provincial. grant will pay the
full cost of ,a. $92,000 truck to
collect recyclables from the 15
schools. •
Chairman Sandy, Hills of Port
Elgin-$,augeen Central Elemen-
tary said arrangements have been
made for the Bruce area
recycling' group to take over
ownership and operating costs of
the truck. 'It will be one of three
the group uses to make weekly
pick-ups -at homes and now at
schools in member
municipalities.
The only cost to the board is
for enough blue boxes to put one
in each classroom. That will cost
$9,000.
At their December 18 meeting
in Chesley, trustees with the
Bruce Board of Education were
wary about even that cost, but
agreed . to get on the recycling
bandwagon.
Hills admitted the program will
need some extra effort from staff
to supervise recyclable collecting
and sorting, but added staff and
students alike are eager to take
on the task.
Six kinds of recyclables
including fine papers, glass and.
steel will be picked up at the
schools once the program starts
sometime next spring.
Other schools in the county
will be able to join if their
municipality joins the Bruce area
recycling group.
