Christmas traditions at the Rotteau household
by Ault' Watteau
Christmas. at my house' has always been
anything but dull. Although we do have a
few traditions, like waling up at four iu
the morning, every Christmas seems to be
different. full of new unique experiences.
One strong memory is waking up on
Christmasmosning. A rule in our house is
never to go downstairs to see what Sane
has left us without our parents. The set
time was ,mixt. but my ser, Emily, and
always found ourselves wide awake at
four. Good thing we took up all those
games to amuse ourselves with. Every
Christmas• morning would find us brave
Suis going 1e peek at what Santa brought
us,. But, just as we were about to look we
decided against it, what if Mom and Dad
found out!?! t .
Figuring out what to buy our parents
has always been a problem. Due to lack
of funds, we always end up giving
something small. One year my sister had
a brain wave, she was going fo give Mom
salt and pepper shakers. When Mom
'carne home with new salt and pelma`
shakers soon after, Emily had a hard time
holding in her di intment, So. Matra
gave Emily the sl to give to her for
Christmas, A compromise that everyone.
was happy with.
That Christmas was not the only we had
a hard time deciding what to buy Mom.
But, some how we would always manage
to surprise her with something, she
wanted. One Christmas :there was`a great
secret going on between three of our four
family members, Mom was in for a great
surprise on Christmas morning. This gift
was in a very big box and heavy,.. _My.
father needed some help canying it into
the, house; Who else but my uncle, also,

an a brand new dishwasher arived, car-

grinning father. Needless to say my
mother was very pleased with her dish-
washer.
A lotof whispering and secrets goon at
Christmas time, and our house is na
exception, Many secrets are kept and
many more are found out. My sister has
a hard three trying not to look for her gifts
before the big day. And then there is my
mother who has a hard time trying to
rmnber where she put everything, But,
eventually everything is given and all are
happy.
My sister and I always spend the nights.
close to Christmas guessing what we
bought for each other. Wel one year I
got suckered, and told Emily part of what
yhad bought herr,. She was very excited,
she had wanted that mini -pops tape for a
long time. The next day, while my mother
was out, Emily conned me into letting her
open her tape and listen to it. After she
listened tb "Eye . of the Tiger", we
wrapped it backup, until Christmas. Until
this day I always wonder why .I told her
what got her and let her open it, and she.
never told ire anything, not even a half
decent clue.
One thing that always puts our fartuihy
in a Christmas spirit is putting up our real.
Christmas tree. This tradition has always
been a big .chore to us. But, as the, Yams` .
have gone by we have cut a lot of
tradition out, No longer do we all trekout
May you share
in the joy that
is Christmas.
Many thanks

Just right. We didn't care that when our

Where We'd Like to Spend Christmas
The country we would liken topend
Christmas in is Canada. We would like to
spend Christmas: in Canada, because we
grew up here. We can't speak any other
language, Also because, we don't have
much family in other countries. Most of
our friends and relations live here. Most
of all spending Christmas in Canada is
our tradition.

Christmas
Christmas is a special time of year
when Jesus. Christ was 'born, The
wisemen followed the star all the way to
Bethlehem. They found him wrapped in
clothes and lying in the manger. The
wicked king wanted to kill Jesus but the
wisemen went around the city, So today
we have our Wonderful Savior who died
on thecross to forgive our sins. he arose
from the dead on the third day.
