Then he proceeded to question

this side of Christmas. work in
Lucknow will -.be completed this

can't come too soon.
Freight Service Cut - On Monday
lastan order went into effect on
many branches of the G.T.R. which
cut the freight service in two. This
applies to all the G.T.R. lines in
Bruce Co., and we shall now have
but three trains, out and in, instead
of " an every -day service. This
change is made not because them is
a falling off in business, but with a
view to conserving coal. The

might identify it and find a; horse for this very old photo. The
h ascription onthe back reads "To Carty with love from Mary,
Christmas 1916." We presume the child is Mary, who in the picture
appears to be around three -years -old. If that is the case, she would

Week Of Snow Ties Up Traffic -
A week of daily snowfall, and
which. still continues 'a this is
written on Tuesday, has, resulted in
a very early tie up of motor traffic..
While the . blockade , is not
complete, county and, `,provincial
snowplows have been working
night and.day in an effort to keep
main roads' passible. Concession
and sideroads • are almost, if not
completely, ~ blocked a snow

proportions•
The tie-up caught the countryside
,unprepared. .
In ' some' cases
snowplowing equipment was not in
readiness and only a portion of
snow fent, erected. Locally the
month early storm caught the
village without a snowplow,and
many citizens havrebeen grumbling
about having to wade,through knee
„deep snow and now waist deep.

A holiday message from
your fire department
Didyou know thaat despite our
modem technology and equipment,
Ontario and the northeastern states
have the highest number of fire
deaths and fire dollar loss in the
world? This includes third world
nations and is calculated on a per
capita basis.
Why is thus? Are we stupid? No,
but it is a fact North Americans
take fire risks for many reasons and
number one is "too busy":
-To change the batteries in smoke
detectors ,
• aaraa 5 amp fuse, so we put in.
p
-to check those overloaded recep-
tacles
40 take that extension cord out
from under the rug '
-to shut off the old dryer before we
go out •
-to ' clean those stove pipes
40 obtain and burn only dry wood
40 turn off Christmas lights before
we retire
There area thousand little things
•
we .don't do that result in death,
injury, loss of property and higher
insurance costs.
On behalf' of the Lucknow nand
District Firefighters, let me wish
you a happy and safe . holiday
season.
Your git to us will be no fire calls
and please CHANGE THOSE
SMOKES!
