Veronique's hometown of
Chertsey :tan be compared to
Lucknow in size., It is located
approximiately One hour north of
Montreal,.
The striuclure of the schools in
Quebeec. is different than. in.. O i-

in another. When entering what
we callgrade seven,the ter-
minology changes. `Grade seven
is called one secondary, grade
eight - two secondary, and, so

the teem used far grade 12 and
13 , whichis in preparation for
college or university. Veronique
said that students must complete
pude 11 before they are`allowed
to terminate their . education,
should they so desire.
Chertsey has one school for
kindergarten to grade "six When
a student enters grade se, ven (one
secondarY). he/she must travel to
Rawdon. Veronique boards her
bus at 7 aa.m4 in. the morning
. arriving at'school at 8:45. C1as-

after taking a. mote direct route,
she arrives home around 5 p.m.
English is taught beginning in
grade five. but- Veronique said
the ,hist two weeks of classes at.
AB. Madill were very difficult.'
Her English hos greatly
improved, but she does have
some problems still ifscertain. -
classes such as biology. Secon-

seven compulsory subjects with.
two options. •
Veronique was amazed at the
number of farms irk our area;
There are few farms . in the
Chertsey vicinity as the village is
located in a very weeded, moon,.;
tainous area.
. Another . difference . "she
remarked on was the number of
teenagers here who attend
_• chtirch: It is not so ;in Quebec,
where she said mainly older
people attend church regularly.
During the summer, after
school and weekends, Veronique
works at a place she likened to:
Beckers. or .:Macs. It has an ar-
cade and
rcade:and gas station, and could
probably be called a convenience
store. —
She enjoys music, downhill
skiing, and readily admits she is
a very avid Nintendo player..
• Living with the Brophy fatally'
