Writer upset that light horse show was
missing from Lucknow Fall Fair
To the editor: - •
Another. Lucknow Fall Fair has
gone by. But the Light Horse Show
was missing. Many competitors
arrived expecting the usual wet
conditions, but took their horses
back home angry and disappointed.

Be a bright spot in
someone eise's life
The week of September 20 to 29,
1990 has been declared Meals on
Whe..els Week. "It's a wonderful
feeling to be a bright spot in
someone's life" says a volunteer,
delivering meals in the commr4tv.
•"Assisting people to maintain r
dignity and independence in their
own home is a worthwhile objec-
tive."
Last year, 43,000 volunteers
across Ontario actively shared this
philosophy. They delivered over
2,000,000 hOt nourishing meals to
66,000' clients who are not as
mobile as they once were.
Lucknow Meals on Wheels is part
of this provincial network. The need
for this service is growing. The
challenge to meet this need is to
maintain our volunteer numbers. It

is this factor that makes Meals on

commitment and dedication of our
local citizens.

earlier, an alternative facility could
have been arranged.
I sympathize with the Ligbt Horse
Show Committee. They have
worked hard putting ,the show
together and were hoping for a
good turnout.
The absence of the Light Horse
Show certainly took something
away from the Lucknow Fall Fair.

IT IS NOT STORAGE
--That so many rich people look
unhappy...
--That so many famous people
have great troubles
--That so many styles have to
change so quickly.
--That memory so easily becomes
a haunting ghost.
--That unmastered passion
become such a tyrannical Master.
—That money is capable of
haying so little real pleasure.
Ra' mbler adds job title

sure that this final part of the job
was going to be a piece of cake!
Now this tool is, to me, heavy,
but I figured I wouldn't have to
hold it too long, I could persevere.
How little I blew. /pulled the'
trigger and the next thing I knew
my whole arm, shoulder and grey
matter betweenlak ears were
shaking. Man was that think
powerful! I took alook at the pad
vibrating back and forth and was
sure it was going to work fantas-
tically. Applying Sander to tiled
wall, I 'moved it back and forth
over a small area for a short
period of time and then checked
the results. You can imagine my
frame of mind when I realized
none of the offending film had
been removed. I tried the process
a couple of more thries, and finally
realized it wasn't going to work. It
was back to the good ol' elbow
grease. Mr. Fixit's name was mud
b this time.
*Next step WaS to reapply the
silicone seal around -the tub. This
turned out to be the easiest part o
the whole job.
The test of my handiwork
wouldn't come for 48 hours, as
that was the recommende,d time to
let it sit, without water getting on -
it. That was a long 48 hours. I
was fidly prepared to blow up the
bathroom if the tile leaked!
Number One Son was.the first
one to use the shower, when the
time had passed. I stood in the
basentent watching for water,
holding my breath and praying
that none would appear. Ah, sue -
Cos!
Being a domestic engineer is a
real chore. The only consolation I
got out of the whole episode was I
can now add another job title to
my resume "Grout Repairer". But
please don't call me. Believe me,
you totildn't afford the price I
would charge to go through that ,
