Including the teacher, we have 20 in our class this year. Grade 1, Mrs. Hodsman Something fishy is happening in grade one at Brookside. Our first reading theme is fish and dur' cul- mination activity is putting together an aquarium to take care of for the year. We had aapparty. to celebrate the end of ourGrade 3, Mr. Lobb The fust week in grade three has been full of wonderful happenings. We celebrated coming ` back to school on the fourth and began meeting friends, old and new. On Friday, Rick MacLeod built a colourful geometric tower and Iw Fielder brought -a giant Swallowtal butterfly to look at. In this week and the weeks to come, we are reading -and writing fables. Grade°4, Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Kane We have enjoyed our first week together. We are beginning to read stories about outer space. We are learning more about our- selves, through a unit called, All About Me. Grade 4/S, Mr: Culp We've just got back but .we've:' Gone Fishing. Our unit on water animals will concentrate,on fish and: fishing. They researched the meanings of their names and the 'popularity ofdif ferent kinds of names. - Grade 6, Miss Morton Grade six has been very busy thinking 'about elections: On Thursday, September 6, we voted in our election. We elected Paid Klopp to' be .our representative in Queen's • Park Grade 7, Mr. Meyers Mr. Meyers' grade seven class is working with calculators in math this week. We're . studying our. . families' histories in history. We're also, bringing in baby pictures for a Who's Who bulletin board. ' Grade •7/8, Mrs. Dozois Grade seven/ eight is off to a roaring start. ,-We are pleased to welcome Jerry Reid, who is new to bur school, formerly from Walker- ton Public School. We know we will enjoy having him in our class. Grade 8, Mr. Hazlitt Grade eight will be exploring the role of revolution in Canada's his- tory, beginning with the impact of the American Revolution.' They'll aiso be beginning a unit of map studies in geography. Room 11 extends a welcome to Steven Clarence, who joins us from Robertson. Resource Room, Mr. Yeo Several new students have come to Brookside School this year. Their names have been put at the entrance of the school with some information about them to let us get to know them faster. At this time of year programs are beginning to take shape and we again encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering and hel- ping at the school to, phone 529- 7900 and leave name and phone number. The students sure benefit. fromtthe contribution made by the thoughtful community. Library, Mrs. Clarke We're excited! The new, improved 1990 Library is just about finished, We've' added a seminar room for research and centre groups and the 'construction (thanks Mr. Pegg), the wiring (thanks Mr. Ritchie), die cleaning up (thanks Mr. and :Mrs. 'Wilkins) and the unpacking (thanks Mrs. Bakker, Mrs... D'Aoust and Mrs.' Robinson) will soon be completed! The ad- ditional space will greatly improve library .. service to students and teachers and the teacher -librarian can hardly wait to use it!
