Somebody goofed!
With the village of Lucknow strategIcal)y •placed: on .the .•
border of ' Huron and Bruce Countless It Is understandable
that members of the general public May be a little confused
as to which county we are incorporated. Into. What Is not.
understandable is thefeet that therm appears to be some
departments of the County of Bruce that don't know
Lucknow is In Bros County!
Last week a wonderful booklet entitled Your Personal Guide
to Fun Events and Activities in Bruce County, arrived on My
desk, via the Bruce . County Planning and Economic
Department. Upon. pausal, 1 noticed with dismay that
nowhere In the 16 pages was Lucknow referred to. What are
we - chopped liver?
A quick phone call to the Tourism and Agriculture j
Coordinator, who was responsible for this protect, elicited the
information that each municipality. received ,(somewhere
around February) a letter asking for a schedule of summer
and fall events to be Included in the publication. She
presumed that no information had been forwarded to her.
Could we also presume that the letter was not sent to the
village of Lucknow?
The coordinator informed me that 50,000 copies of this
booklet had been printed, with 21,000 copies being
distributed through Canada Post to all householders In Bruce
County. The balance were placed in Tourist Information
booths and tourist spots throughout the county.
Living In Lucknow 1 was amazed 1 hadn't received one In
my personal mall box. A few people I checked with hadn't
received one. On contacting the local post office, I was
Informed they had never received them for distribution!
Checking back with the coordinator 1 was Informed that the
printer had looked after the distribution. The printer had
asked Canada Post for a list of all municipalities in . Bruce
County, guess what - Lucknow wasn't included.
Human errors do occur, but this one really sticks in my
craw. With the Business Association and local organizations
doing their best to promote the village, it is disheartening
when such an opportune time was available for Lucknow to
promote at least five major events that take place during the
summer and fall months.
Once again that crack In the middle of highway 86 opened
up and Luckilow fell in.

Attracts much attention - Not so
manyyyears ago the erection of a
at one of the local
implement agencies would not have
attracted even passing notice. They
were as common, almost, as
mowers or pitchforks. But time
works changes. The other day when
WJohnstone & Son were fitting up
a new Massey -Harris reaper for
flax -cutting every passer-by was
interested in the "new" machine.
The implement had been bought by
Mr. J. G. Anderson for harvesting
flax. Instead of pulling, Mr. Ander-
son is cutting the greater part o his
flax this year, and the old-fashioned
reaper is said to be just the thing
for this purpose.

Hydro coach created much
Interest - The big silver hydro
coach, serving to demonstrate hydro
appliances for farm and home con-
vemence, attracted much interest
while in town last Wednesday after-
noon
fternoon and evening.
Electricity is steadily
revolutionizing country life, making
work easier and more productive,
with economy and comfort, and
rural hydro is rapidly being ex-
so that today more than

rently "hooked up."
Wednesday's demonstration had
as its purpose the revealing of what
hydro can do on the farm, in the
barn aid home, and at what cost. In
this regard hydro is referred to as
"'ibe Hired Man that works for
pennies." •
In the household appliance section .
of the Coach was everything from
an egg cooker, coffee maker and
toaster, to such drudgery savers as
washers, ironers and cleaners, as
well as ranges, refrigeration units,
and hot water heaters.
The men folk were more
interested in viewing such things as
grain grinders, milking machines,
milk coolers, electric clippers and
'water pressure systems.

Log house, over 100 years old -
A log house on the farm of Dick
West, on the Lochalsh -Kincardine
sideroad in Ashfield Township, has
been sold to John Hindmarsh of
Coderich District and has been
+dismanded, log by log, and will be
re -meted by Mr. Hindmarsh as a
cottage.
The log house, as solid as the day
it was built, is believed to be over
100 years old. James West, father
of Dick West of Ashfield, pur-
chased
unchased the fan n from Dan McMur
chy but it is believed that a family
called Welsh built the house
originally.
The log house is about 20 by 30
and was built atop a log cellar. It is
the intention of Mr. Hindmarsh to
polish the logs some of which 'are
two feet and 30 feet long.
Dick West was born and raised in
the log structure and in 1950 he
built a new house across the road
from the log hoe, where he now
resides. •

Here's Mollie - An honoured
guest during 125th birthday fes-
tivities on the weekend was Mollie
Whiteside representing Dungannon,
Ireland. A special picnic was held
at Dungannon Hall so residents
could met Mrs. Whiteside. Frank
McCarthy, 83, of Vancouver, B.C.
who travelled to Kingsbridge for
the 75th anniversary of St. Joseph's
Church, stayed over an extra few
days to meet Mrs. Whiteside at the
picnic.
