Picture identified
As eiNaryone knows, there is an abundance of history in
Lucknow and here's a little bit more to add to your trivia
list.
Last week's picture was taken in front of the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Haldenby of Walter Street, and was
Identified by John Roulston, who walks past it every day
and recognized it, despite the fact that 1 had close crop-
ped it to make Identification a little more difficult.
The history was obtained from Helen Hail, whose
parents, the late Alex Hamilton and Carrie (Meadows)
Hamilton, owned the home prior to the Haldonby8,
Mrs. Hall said her father was a man who enlotied hob-
bies, and IR the mid 1930's he decided to build the lily
pond complete with water fountain. She -remembers well
the work and time that went into building -it. as it was her
and her father who carded the many six quart baskets of
cobblestone. from Lurgan Beach to their car, to construct
the masterpiece. It took the two of them the springsum-
mer and fall to complete the Illy pond. Mrs.114011 said they
often worked ,at night with the aid of a lantern. For many
years the pond Was loaded with goIrsh.

A mean Har - All liars are mean
and contemptible; but some are
worse than others. One of the
meanest sent a note to The Sentinel
--5# last week which unfortunately got
by and was published. (The article
referred to was a birth).
Unfortunately, in& favored the
liar in this case. The editor was off
duty throughout last week, his time
being fully occupied by a balking
gas engine, and the communication,
which was unsigned, passed to the
linotype operator without the usual
scruthiy.
One. can imagine the filthy
creature who sent in the report en-
joying a sort of fiendish pleasure as
she (it is thought to have been a
woman) saw her lies in print; but
we would remindher that pleasure
obtained in that way is neither pure
nor lasting, , and 'that liars are
among those who do not go to
Heaven.

•
Society's Centennial Gates has been
completed and a service of dedica-
tion is planned for Sunday, August
3th at 3 p.m.
The. gates stand at the entrance

of service of the Agricultural Socie-
ty to Lucknow and district.
Work on the gates was done by
George Harkness and son Ronald of
R. 3, Ripley and West Harkness of
Teesviater. They very capably
handled the stone work.
„The stonoX were trucked from the
farms of Andrew Gaunt, Fred
McQuillin, Lloyd Henderson and
Oliver McCharles.
Enscribed plaques on the gates
were placed to be a lasting recogni-
tion of the 109th anniversary of the
Fair.
The fillage of Lucknow will in-
stall lighting to glow atop the main
