WI mem Viers learn about Japan
The July meeting of the Dungan
non Women's Institutewas held at
the home of Winnifred Girvin:with
14 members and two guests in
attendance.
The •president Jean. Errington
opened the meeting in the usual
way. The roll; call was "the farm
chore I ,.like best plus the farm
chore I disliked the most." The
members recalled many varied
likes and dislikes in differenttypes
of farming.
This month's meeting highlighted
Agriculture with Peg Million in
charge. After a brief talkshe in-
troduced her guest speakers Vanda
McNiel and son Curtis.. Mrs.
McNiel and her husband Glen own
a hoLein dairy 'farm near The
Nile. Glen also travels about to dif-
ferent , dairy cattle shows as a
judge. •
1114988 Glen and Vanda were in-
vited to. Japan to be the official
judges at a cattle show over there.
They took' their movie camera, and
brought back many interesting
slides of Japanese life on dairy
farms.
They found the barns exceptional-
ly. cl ; it being hard to tell .from
the $ de which was the barn and
which as the house as they were
very similar structurally. Some of
the dairy men had been trainee 'en--
dairy
ion"_dairy farms in Canada and milk' of
the heard sires* had been imported
from Canada.
They found that commodities, in-
cluding cattle, were very expensive
in Japan as compared to Canada
but the peoplewere very friendly
and -kind.
Venda and her son gave us a
fashion show of Japanese kimono's

with obis, and other • souvenirs
(chopsticks, fans, money, scarves)
and a very beautiful china doll.
Peg Pardon' read a poem, Rober-
ta Linskill gave the minutes and
Joan4Doherty the correspondence.
The collection was five cents for
every bed in your house. •
The meeting closed with God
Save the Queen and the institute
grace. Lunch was served by Win-
ni#red' Girvan and Peg Purdon.
