PAY EQUITY
Pay equity is proving to be a dif-
ficult issue for the Bruce County
Board of Education
Trustee Ray Fenton /blamed coin-
, Ideated
om-,.plicated provincial legislation for
problems in setting pay equity
agreements with the board's many
employee.; group*. •
A tentative agreement with
secretaries and teachers' aides: will
see pay adjustments ranging from
30 cents to $1.81 per hour. ,
That will cost:3130,000 over two
year, with $70,000 to be paid out
this year. ,
Fenton said at the board's June
10 meeting (in ,Chesley that joint.
negotiations with other, boards could
help speed . settlements with
teacher groups, and added that
until some trends in agreements
emerge, it will ,remain hard for .
boards to figure out whatthe pro-
vince expects to .accomplish. with
the legislation.
Pay equity was to be lin place six
months ago. Fenton predicted the
process could take another 12 to 18
months to complete.
