• Bears! Bears! Bears! We have been
doing research on bears, -After our
research we made a book about these
facts. Next week we will be enjoying our
Teddy Bears at school and working at .
bear centres. On Friday, We will end our
Bear Unit with a Picnic -food, fun, and
games.
Grade One
Mrs. Ben/Mrs. IVIachityre
Grade One would like to thank all. the
. "special friends" who came to our "Shar-
ing Day" party on Wednesday. We felt
Very proud to share our work and our. lit-
tle plays with you. Mrs. Bell MIS 'pleas-
ed with our good manners. Congratula-
tions to Andrew who had his brand-new
baby sister at our party. We are glad
Lisa has recovered from her chicken pox.
Grade 1/2 - Mrs. Black
Some of the members in grade one and
two are reading about, "monsters." They
have created their own, Hairy, Scary
Monsters and are waiting for a grassy
mop of hair to soon appear.
Alicia Thacker is our birthday girl this
month. Super Star helpers were Marc
Neidlinger and Ellen Husk.
It is wonderful to have 'a full class once
again. The chicken pox seems to have -
run their course.
Grade 2/3 Mrs. Campbell
Alexis Sitarz is our Library Lotto win-
ner this week.
We are starting a new unit on Australia
and everyone is excited about the dif-
ferent customs and animals of a new
country.
. Grade 3/4

The Grade Four's are ready for the
. field day on Friday, May 25. Everyone is
looking forward to this special day.
Our new Language Art topic is "Heat
Waves and Water Sprays." We're think-
ing about the Summer and doing ac-
tivities related to the warm weather. In-
cluded in our centres are word study ac-
tivities, brain-otormlog, Poetry writing,
/and phonics,
Grade 5/6 - Mr. Bennett
Canada Fitness is finally over. We all
did well and .worked hard to get our
badges and certificates.
School is winding down and we are
looking forward to our field trip to the
Science Centre in Toronto!
Grade 7/8
_ Mrs. Forrest/Mrs. McDonagh
Most of the Grade Seven's did quite
well on their history test on New France,
proving that listening in class and study-
ing are worthwhile activities. Both
classes are continubig.with novel studies.
The novel, "The King's Daughter" has
been quite interesting.
Next month, Grade 7 will be collecting
pledges. for Alzheimer's.
Grade 8 - Mr. McKeon
Alliteration! Assonace! Simile! Sonnet!
Yes, it's true, these are English words.
In fact, our grade eight's have learned to
use these poetic devices quite effectively,
during our poetry unit. Don't tell anyone
but it has been reported that grade -6"0'—
have been seen sneaking poetry out of
the library.
Special 'Education

•• • The class is looking forward to com-
pleting decorative plaques for Father's
Day. The class picnic to Lucknow Park
is being discussed and orgaiuzed. They
are also trying to complete their year's
work before report card thne.
French
On Wednesday, •May 23, • Tracy
LeBreton and Jolene Weber accompanied
Miss Scott to the Brace County Board of
Education Office in Chesley, to par-
ticipate in a day of excellence for Grade
• Eight French students. The afternoon
consisted of a presentation by an ex-
• change student, French skits, and the
sampling of typical French Cuisine. It
was an exciting day! •
On Thursday, May 24, Nicki Boileau of
Kincardine, visited the grade 7's and 8's
• to share her experiences as a Rotary Ex-
change Student. Nicki spent one year in
Belgium learning French. She had many
interesting things to ,tell us. Thank' you
Nicki! . • •
Grade 6/7 - Mr. Burkhart •
The final details are going on to ,the
Music, History and Science projects.
•. The track and field practising in
Physical Education provided the students
• to improve their skills, so that many rib-
• bons were received by our class.
The •class has really enjoyed our
newest member, Tasha Mayer.
