More support needed for pregnant women
To the editor:
The policy of the Ontario government
seems to .encourage women who find
themselves luster d eireliMablineeS
to have an abortions Abortion clinks ore
allowed to Operate and would . naturally
image abortion over all other options.
This Is bow they make a profit. Recent,
ly, Bind 147 was paste in Parlisunent
which allows Independent Health
Feellities to be ekitAblbhal throughout,
itarie% Again, these centres must per -
for lk abortiens iris order to be licensed,
Neither the Progressive Conservative_
Party or the New.Dcratic Party tb-
jeeted. Only the Family Coalition has a
Pifer that opposes abortion.
Does our governmerit keep eneouragwg
abortions because of over-populatlon andenvironmental concern?; in Canada, in-
stead of using prime farmlandto feed•the
world's, poor, we take it outef .
to build larger cities whic>i cotObe built.
on non-agricultural land; .Ona per capita
basis, Canadians ,are among. the worst
polluters in the world. Having smaller
families doesn't meansharing our natural
resources with developing nations
In-
stead we become ever more materialistic,
spoiling ourselves and destroying the
environment. •
Many studies have shown that there
are not enough babies being born now to
maintain our industries and .services, m
the future. I think it is time the Ontario •
government started offering more support
to women who find themselves pregnant
under difficult circumstances. Their
babies are needed if this country is to re-
main strong and free in the future. And
their babies are wanted by thousands of
couples anxious to adopt. Our government
should give the necessary moral and
financial. support so that these women
can choose life.
