The Ministry of the Environment
(MOE) has cut funding for Maitlalnd

rural waste management activities by 40

assistance has been provided to Ian-
downers to help clean . up pollution
problems.
Bacterial water pollution is a'Iserious
problem in the. Maitland River watersh- .
ed. In 1909 a major study of local pollu-
- tion sources was completed. The study
identified the most conman sources of
bacterial pollution. These -included faulty
septic system,' cattle access to water-
courses and poor manure spreading
practices.
A report outlining the results of the
pollution study is being" sent to the 500-
landowners who were contacted by
MVCA staff over the past four years.
Anyone wishing a copy of this report can
receive one by contacting the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority office at
(519) 3354557.
