Last week Katherine Collins, Marjorie
Thompson, Bette McLeod and Edna
Stanley enjoyed a bus trip to Ottawa with
the senior's class of the Kincardine and,
District high school. While there they
toured the Royal. Mint, the National
Gallery of Canada, the Parliament
Buildings where theyvisited with MP •
MUrray Cardiff and listened' in on QuestionPernod in the House of Commons visitor's
gallery. They also visited the Canadian
Museum of Civilization In Hull Quebec, the
Canadian,war Museum, the National Avia
Elizabeth (Betty) G. Cardno
Dr. Maarten Bokhout, Medical Officer of Health, on
behalf of the Huron County Board of Health,
announces the retirement of Elizabeth (Betty) G.
Cardno as Director of the Huron County Home
Care Program effective May 4, 1990. •
Mrs. Cardno began her empioymbnt with the
Health Unit In 1950, took time out to raise her
family and returned In 1960. She has been the sole
Director of the Home Care Program since its
inception in September 1971 and has .guided Its
development from a single program to a multi-
service agency. In 1981 she was seconded to
Toronto to work for one year for the Ontario
Ministry of Health.
The Board of Health wishes to recognize Mrs.
Cardno's significant contributions, not only to the
Home Care Program, but also to the residents of
Huron County. She has been a valued member of
the senior management team of the Health Unit
since 1971. '
The Corporation of the County of Huron extends
congratulations to Mrs. Cardno and best wishes for
good health and happiness throughout her
retirement..

Bruce Machan, Chairman of the Huron
County Board of Health, is. pleased to
announce the appointment of Mrs.,
Joanne M. Jasper, B.Sc.N. as Director of
the Huron County Home Care Program,
effective April 17, 1990.
Mrs. Jasper is not new to the Health Unit,
having worked as a Public Health Nurse
from 1971-78, serving as senor" nurse for
three years. Since 1979 she had worked'
for. the Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital in Goderich, the past 'seven
years este Discharge Planner..
Mrs. Jasper will be a member of the
senior management team at the Health
Unit and,will report directly to Dr. Maarten
Bokhout Medical Officer of Health.

Time for this week's news. In Ripley, the

Across the road here from our front door
is • Gore Park' in Ripley. Last Tuesday. It
was alive' with young foks. To this writer
it looked like the start of play school. If
those in charge will give me some names,
I. will be happy to srite up a story. in-
cluding the details. Like Goldie Buck- •
Ingham and Wib' MacLeod, former,
newspaper men in Kincardine, we believe
like them, that names make the news. .
Sumner is here for sure. Last Wednes-
day morning we heard our first song of the
• • song. sparrow; It is the one with the spot
in its mid breast • and. pours outthe" notes
over the nearby countryside,
Environmental Week and Earth Day
Staff and students at Rpm were active-
ly involved .this past week in:: activities
which will helpsave our planet. Last
Wendesday, we received 240. trees which
'' were distributed to the homes of all
students who requested trees to plant as
part of Earth Day celebrations. On Friday
with the assistance of John Gamble, Grant
MacDonald and Murray Yungblut, the
senior students planted 12. maple trees at
the back of the playground area. These
, trees wereobtained through the "Men of
' the Trees Organization" with the money
being taken from the school hot dog fund.
' During Environment Week, several
clams have beenworking on Litterless
Lunches and Mrs. MacDonald's class
• : started a compost heap at the back of the
school yard.
On Friday afternoon all classes par-
ticipated. in. '"Pitch -Iii -Day". Each class

all classes did an excellent job of picking
up litter to help tidy* up the village.
Congratulations to "all staff and students
who participated in Environment Week ac-
tivities. A special thankyou to the parent
volunteers who assisted students in many
ways during this past week. Let's hope we
are all more aware of environmental
issues and things we can each do to help
save the planet
The Ripley and District Horticultural
Society met at Mrs. Marie Colling's home
Apr. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
Roll call was answered by 22 members
naming their favorite flowers. The Spring' •.
Show is being held May 8. All entries to be
in before 10:30 a.m. and not removed un-

ntil 4 p.m. •
Katherine Collins began the program
with a reading, after which Bette MacLeod
showed slides on a trip through the wild
flowers growing in the . Bruce Peninsula
and a Lilly show in Hamilton also flowers
at an international show in Toronto which
proved very interesting.
Katherine added a humorous reading
about . the seniors ' and a verbal contest.

in solving break in at cemetery
Crime Stoppers of Grey -Bruce are seek-
ing
eeking the public's assistance in the in-
vestigation of a break, enter and theft
which occurred In Markdale.
The Markdale Detachment of the On-
tario Provincial Police report that they
have exhausted all possible leads concer-
ning a break, enter and theft which oc-
curred at the Markdale Cemetery.
Policethat sometime during the
night of J�23rd to July 24th, 1988, per-
sons(s) unknown broke •into the storage
shed at the Markdale Cemetery, situated
at Cty. Rd. 12, just east of town. Entry
to the shed was gained by prying off two
locks , on 'the shed door. The following
were stolen: '
