Intolerance by Canadians towards their
fellow eitImme. In recent weeks this has
been .particularly true in the area of
tolerance towards' Canadians who may
speak an official language different from
our own. Canada is a countiny' of two O -
ficial languages, English and French. I
welcome this. But even if I'did not, I
recognize that it is and most continue to
be an enduring characteristic of Canada.
If we who use English as our mother.
tongue expect, when we travel in Quebec
and other francophone areas, . to be
welcomed and . served with cokes), by
public our language, swnuaprepared encourage -
support publictitutions
which offer
services in Foal% in anglophone areas of
Canada. And lust as we may wish to
preserve English as a basis for . our
culture, we must accept that our fellow
citizens who . are fr . e wish to

culture.
I believe that respect for our two of-
ficial languages is particularly important
to Canadians who are of neither French
