Mrs. Walden gave the meditation entitled "Children and Chance" stating that the careand counsel of children should not be left to chance. Each person has an obligation to -counsel, control, guide and safeguard our children. Mrs.. Morrison: then led in prayer. Appropriate hymns were sung during the service, The offer- ing was received by Helen Todd and Isobel Miller and dedicated by Mrs. Walden. Members of the C.G.LT. favoured with three songs "When I'm Feeling Lonely,", "a Song written for the C.G.I.T. Purpose" and "Seek Ye First the Kingdom". The guest speaker, Betty Sergeant and her husband Jim of TilLsonburg, were in- troduced by Mrs. Cayley. The Sergeants shared their experiences and showed slides of several third world countries to which they have travelled at their own expense to deliver bedkits to needy children through SCAW,"Sleeping Children Around,the Worl", organized by Murray Dryden and his late wife Margaret ofs ngton Ont. SCAW is 100% volunteer. Broadly speaking, there are three categories of SCAW volunteers; 1. Administration Volunteers who han- dle the demanding fund raising respon- sibility, accounting, label production and other administrative functions. 2,, The Travelling Volunteer* who travel. (at their OWn coot) to distant lands auper- vnung the distribution of the bedkits and taking the ' r : for the donors. 3. The • eeseas Volunteers in the developing countries who manage the complex task of assembling and di*ibuting the bedkits. Formerly , several groups participated but for this course the sponsoringinstitute could plan tine.. event. Kairshea Women's Inwtitete nvited;. Luclmow Women's'Institute and also the Junior Women's Institute. An exciting part of the Program was a Reach for',the Top Contest. There . were groups from the 4-11 Its.. Dough- Nuts and one of Kairshea Vis. They were tested on their knowledge of bread -baking. Muriel MacKenzie, _president of Kair- rhea W.I. gave out he awards. There were 10 girls taking the course. There were awards for the number of courses taken and a special plaque went to Bar - bare Stein for .completing 24 courses. --The leaders, Sharon Stein and Barbara de Baer' were thanked and presented with awards also. The girls served delicious baked goods for lunch. In 1910, a total of 210,000 bedkits were distributed in the following countries: In- dia, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Thailand, Philippines, Honduras, Columbia, Bang]adesh, and Mozambique.A sample kit distributed in the Philippines was on day A donation of #M supplies one bedkit.
