The Bruce County Board of. Education
began a two-year program for educating
educators on drug awareness at the CAW
Centre last week.
Port Elgin resident Earl Farrell, super-
visor

Farrell said the program was started
at the behest of a provincial government-

provincial boards of education are star-

Training for the approximately 150 key
teachers and administrators in the coun-

In addition to her regular teaching
hours, Ms. Bell writes Latin test books,
including aix textbooks, four workbooks,
and four teachers, manuals. On top of all
this, she acts as the Publications Officer
for the North American ..Cambridge
Classics Project; which requires her to
examine all Latin texts from the
publisher that have been proposed to sell
in North America, She determines
whither it would be a useful 'text and
whether it should enter North .America,
The report goes on to say, that while
she enjoys teaching adults, her "main

statistics forthe county, but ;in thepro
vine, drug use is levelling off and. star-
ting to decrease. -
One reason for the decline is that drug
education in schools -is starting to have
an effect, but there may be <other'factors,
he said,
Farrell said there are already ,drug
programs in schools, but " this new 'pro-
gram will look to bring drug education
across the curriculum. Instead, of having
one class dealing exclusively with drugs
it would be taught, in part, over various
courses.
Dick O'Brien -from the Canadian
Organization on Drug Abuse (CODA) was
the speaker at last week's sessions. He
spoke on the Phase 1 topic of the two-
year session, which is awareness. ,
