restructuring later this sun user gsaiid Milt
McIver, cohnnmittee. chairman.
"1 would feel that we'll probably go un-
til. late June before going to the
with more facts and figures," said Brad
Davis, committee member. "If . any area
wants a special public meeting we'll cer-.,
fainly elcconmodete them. There isn't go,

the fall, so there's lots of input over the
summer,
Rosin F owlei`, Southampton reeve, ask-
ed the • committee for the extension
because of a large number of seasonal
raters in the area.
" rein the amount of letter's we're get:
ting. they want their input," he said.
"It would be good to accom nodate
groups like this to prevent later scream-

Mowry alao asked the coaunittee if it

softening the restructuring procedure.
"There seems to be a fairly determin-
ed effort, especially in our area, by

ment from this issue," said Mowry.
Mclver said the committee has bad no

Council approves new logo for I3ruceCounty
by Debbie Stull
WALKERTON A new Bruce County
logo, representing several outstanding
aspects of the county, has been specifical-
ly
pecifically designed to promote county tourism
and agricultural interests.
"My main concern is to provide an im-
age of what Bruce County is ,and will be.
I think it's important we lookinto the
1990s using a new concept for county
tourism," said Sally Wright, county
tourism promoter.
Bruce County council approved the new
logo after seeing the colorful, graphic
design for the first .time, on April 17. The
new logo was created by Wright at the
request of the Agriculture, Tourism and
Planning/Land Division Committee:
However, her image of Bruce County
and the image several Bruce County
council members have of the county are
different.
"This just doesn't turn me on at all. ' I
don't see anything -in it. Maybe it's , just.
me," said Joe Hawke, Eastnor reeve.
The logo depicts the county's com-
modities of clean blue water and air as
well as green rolling hills, farmland, the
Niagara Escarpment and famous red
sunsets along Lake Huron's ..sandy
beaches. Wright said she chose to gowith
several symbols as "no single symbol
represents Bruce County.
"The logo is suppose to lure all types
of tourists and provide a visual descrip-
tions of what Bruce County has to offer
people. Its purpose is to promote Bruce
County within and outside its borders:"
Rob Thompson, Paisley reeve, said he
liked the logo, but added the distinctive

Wright. said she chose not to go with
the shape of the County "because' I

She said it will take three to five years
for the logo to penetrate "after long-term
commitment tologo use,"
The logo is effective in color and in
black and white, she said, adding that
several projects are waiting for the logo
which took three months to design.
The logo, which will not replace the
Bruce County pin, will be used by Bruce
County weekly newspapers and on items
like posters, placemats, brochures and
Bruce County's calendar of events and
activities, said Wright later.

,planning program
WALKERTON-Bruce County council
wants the Ministry of the Environment to
comment on planning matters and land
use decisions before;.they are made.
Council will, request the ministry to re-
establish "a comprehensive planning pro-
gram" so ' municipal .councils' en-
vironmental ' concerns can be dealt with
prior to naking: zoning•by--law or official
plan; . amendements.. The decision was
made on the recommendation of the
Agriculture, Tourism and Planning/Land
Division Committee at council's April 17
meeting.
The committee' recommended the re-
quest after it reviewed a letter from the
• ministry which said the 'ministry will pro-
vide input only after a municipality ap-

proves an amendment. The committee
told council informed decisions on impor-
tant environmental issues can be made
with the ministry's. help. "This is another,
example .of the government off-loading"
their responsiblities to us," said Stuart
Mowry, Kincardine reeve. • ' •
"Without the ministry's comments, we
' can make all the decisions we,. want to
and then have them pull the strings on
us," added Jack. Riley, Greenock reeve
and committee chairman.
The committee told council the
not follow the
intent of the Planning oach Act which allows
for the review of development•proposals
by government agencies before
municipalities make any decision on land
use matters.
