Alvin's law
He stressed , to the student body and
teachers that there is no way of covering
up what is wrong with you. The most im-
portant thing is how, you feel inside about.
yourself. He believes that everyone has a
talent, ability or a special gift to do
something unique. Alvin's talent is to
play musical instruments. While he
doesn't read music, he has mastered
playing the piano, the trombone (with a
special chair) and the drums. In 1977 he
competed in a music festival beating out
196 other trombone players to bring home
the gold. In 1978 he was voted one of 10
of the `top jazz players. He emphasized
through personal stories how as in-
dividuals we should not waste our talents
or abilities and never to be embarradsed
about yourself as a person. "It doesn't
matter how you look, it's who you are
that counts."
As he ended his inspirational presenta-
tion,
resentertion, he quoted Alvin's law: "when the
going gets tough ® get goingV
