Game one of the group playoff series
between the Luckuow stows and Clifford
was played in Clifford on March 15.
These two teams had recently played
each other during the Brussels Optomists
tournament. The outcome of that game
being a 3 » 2 score in favour of Lucknow.
Bath tanner are evenly.Patched so :th6s..
would prove to be another clone game.
Curt Humphrey started between the
pipes for Lucknow and was relieved by
Tyler Brooks at the half way mark.
• It was obvious that the'ng break
and the good weather had as effect on
the lineups for both teams. Lucknow, as
well as , Clifford, had recruited some
Novice_ players to strengthen. their teams.
Craig Moffat and' Greg Courtney dressed
for Lucknow. The momentum of the play
was somewhat more relaxed than past
games.
Both teams skated out thefirst period
scoreless. Clifford scored the first goal
the 'second period at 1346 and
Porter put his team on the scoreboard at
13:30, He was assisted by Lee Drennan.

The third period resulted in one more
goal for each team. Lucknow had the
edge in shots on net but he Clifford goalie
did his job well: Lee Drennan scored his
second of the night, at 4:02 and put
Lucknow up with two goals. With 40
seconds remaining on the clock, Clifford
pulled their goalie • and added an extra at-
tacker but to no avail as the hard work-
ing Lucknow team was able to hold onto
their two goal lead as the buzzer •ended
the first game of the series, Final score

SPRING COINING
Soon the farmers will be farming, plow .
ing up the bosky dells, skies will soon be
blue and tcharming, and he breezes wear-
ing bellsEvery day is bringing nearer
Spring, the season we admire; and this
precious thought grows clearer as I feed
the furnace fire. When I'm shaking down
the ashes, when I'm heaving in the coal,
this reflection goes a -flashing through the • '
' fibre of my soul; and I wave the rusty
poker and I slam the furnace door, for I
will not need to stoke her, in the spring
time, anymore. Oh,the winter winds are
chilling, and they jolt us when they
strike, but the springtime's calmly drill-
ing somewhere up the -dusty pike; and
she's bringing birds and roses and a
swarm of bumble bees; we forget our
frosted noses when we think such
thoughts as these. Spring is coming, gen-
tle 'reader, with that luscious smile of
her's, and the farmer with his seeder will
be sowing cockleburs, and we'll get up
picnic parties in the sylvan dells and
glades, where the happy village smarties
will escort the giggling maids; and we'll
be knee deep in clover, and forget our
every sore, for the winter will beover
and the spring will have the floor.
