Mcordk,g to the Directory of
the Canadfan Aseociation, the Blondea
originated in the South-West of France,
where the Garonne* breed predainated,
'which is the book origin of the Blonde
d'Aquitaine breed of today. The breed
had a remarkable aptitude as a draught
guarani and for the quality of its meat,
and today plays an important role in im-
proving beef production in the Soutb-Weet
of France.
"The Garonnias Herd -Book was
established in 105. However it was not
until the end of the Second. World War
and the coming of mechanisation of
agriculture that those reeponeible for the
Herd -Book concentrated breed selection
for meat production.
The transition made by the Blonde
«Aquitaine breed -from a predominantly
worklng guarnal to a meat prod***
animal was intensified with the eitensive
use of artificial lamination, In 1950 per-
formance recording of Beef Cattle was
in hived. Breed improvement programs
we' a more coordinated. Tice main breed
improvement centre is located in Soual
(Tarn). Here performance and progeny
testing of young bulls for artificial
breeding is carried out every year with
the cooperation of I.N.R.A. These pro-
grams have subetantlated the ability of
the Blonde d'Aqtdtaine breed to adapt to
modern beef production." •

of Blonde cattlemen's beliefs in this

"What could he more convincing of the

of their rate -of -gain and mothering abk

equal in size to one year olds in other
breeds! What could be more convincing
of their ratability than record prices be-
ing paid for Blondes at sales barns!"
