Before I became involved with the Soil
& 'Crop Improvement Association, I
wondered what the Seed Fair was all
about and 1 hesitated to go and find out.
Because of this, I missed out on a good
thing for a few years.
The Seed Fair is really in two parts:
the seed judging and the information pro-
gram. Tbe competitive part of the seed.
fair gives you a chance tosee how Your
home-grown grains and forages stack up
to others in the county. The entry cost
for this'
is included in your admission and
if you are producing high-quality
we'd like to see 'them at the fair, You
don't. have to enter the competition;
however, to attend and benefit from our
information program.
We have some excellent presentations
lined up this year, which should be of in-
.
terest to all farmers. Clarence Swanton,
from the University of Guelph, will be
.sharing the 'results of his research into
better methods of weed control. Don
Ahrens, whiner of the Bruce County
Forage Master's and runner-up in the
Provincial Forage Master's Competition;
will share some of his secrets for suc-
cessful forage production. We will also
have a farmer panel on growing Forage
Seeds and a speaker on "Agriculture and
-Water Quality"._Joan McKinlay and I
.round out the deY's program. It promises
to be a timely and informative session.
This year's Seed Fair will be held ,
Wednesday, March 14 in the Formosa
Community Centre, from 10 A.1Vk. to 3
P.M. Admission is $7 per person, and in-
cludes lunch. Keith Reid, Soil Conserve -
