judged on the basis of our exterior

set a precedent, changing quite often
throws people for a temporary loop.
These judgments many not seem fair, but
after all we are only human..

Tuesday night proved a great attraction,
and it was the fastest and best game
ever played on Lucknow ice. The 'only
bad feature was that the final score was
big on the wrong side, Palmerston Winn-

of the league games for the season.
The seating and standing capacity .was ,

SUBSIDY UP BY NEW ASSESSMENT-
Assisselent notices that are being.
distributed now in West Wawanosh are to
be accompanied by a notice informing
the taxpayer that while there has been a
general 'here se in , all assessments, it
will have no ,affect on the amount of
axes. It . will, however, mean an addi-
tional
dditional revenue of $500.00 to the 'Township
through the Provincial subsidy of one
mill on the .assessed values
The notice points to thenew equalized
assessment adopted • by the ,County of
Huron, with West Wawanosh's assess-
ment for County purposes ,fixed at
$1,911,000. The local assessment for 1939
was $1,419,000 and' in order that the local
and equalized assessment be the same an
increase of approximately 35 per cent in
all assessments has been ordered.
It is emphasized however that this will
not affect the taxes, neither to increase
or decrease them, but will result in an
increasied Provincial subsidy and a fair
valuation for all property within the
Municipality.

In the budget presented to county last
Thursday it was noted that
proposed ex -
of themoney must be raised through the
county levy.
Engineer Bob Dempsey explained the
major increase in the budget is due to
the energy situation. Asphalt prices. are
up to $1504160 per ton, he reported, com-
Pared to $70475 when he came to the
county two years ago.
McKillop Township Reeve Allan Camp
bell had a suggestion how the county
could save some money, but it didn't get
very far. •
Mr. Campbell asked that while he had
no quarrel with the $1,366 the county
spent on repairing . the Hullett-McKillop
boundary bridge last year, he did ques-
tion the 910,000 budgeted for engineering
ses an that bridge and another one in
He could have told the county the
bridge- is in bad shape, he commented,
and he Would have been glad to do it for
a lot less than 910,000.
"If you'll fund d0 per cent of the cost
I`ll be glad to take your word," Mr.
Dempsey responded. He explained the
MTC requires an engineering study to
qualify a project for subsidy.
