(Pat Livingstonphoto) • Howick takes Tyke, tourney The ?0th Annual Lucknow Legion. Tyke Tournament was held at the Lucknow Arena on Saturday, March 3. This"`eight team tournament is set up for players at the tyke level which takes hi ages seven and 'under. The local entry opened the tournament and came out on the short end of a 7-1" loss to the Huron Township team. Jeremy McQuillin led the way with three , goals: and two assists while Mark Elliott col- lected tnrg-goals and tato assists:': The lone Luclolowrgoal was scored by Wain- wright assisted by Jason Pentland. Other first round action had Blyth defeating Teeswater 6-4 while Howick took Ripley 14-3 and Belgrave slipped by Brussels 6.4. In the second round playon the championship side Huron Township just scraped by Blyth 7-5 after a double shootout to break the tie. Howick also gained a berth in the championship final as they dumped last year's champion Belgrave team by .a 7-1 score. \In the final it was Howick over Huron Township 10.6 to take the championship_ trophy. Lucknow bowed out of consolationcon- tention in the second round 'as they were defeated •4-1 by Teeswater. Lucknow's on- ly goal was scored late in the thrid period when defenseman Dennis Andrew pinched in and scored on Brian Stanley's pass. Ripley also advanced. to the con- solation final having defeated Brussels by a 4-2 score. In the final game itself on the consola- tion side it was Teeswater defeating Ripley by a 10-4 score. Martin had a ,excellent day in goal for the Lucknow teams as be turned aside shot after shot. Both :the team and the minor hockey systemwould like to thank Ron Alton and Bill Hunter for their assistance in running this tournament' as well'as the volunteer referees made up of Russell Sutton, Dwayne Porter, Steve Porter, Steve Pritchard, Brent Gammie, Paul Helm and Sam Murray. Also thank you to Dwight Gattinger for taking charge of the parent volunteer time keepers as well as Annette Drennan and Judy Evans and all the Moms for seeing that the teams. were provided with a free lunch down at the Lucknow Legion. This tournament is the highlight of the Tyke hockey program and a big thank you goes out to the Lueknow Legion from all of the players • for making this possible.We would also like to thank the local merchants for their donations to the tournament. Congratulationp to three Sonth''Kinloss students' who were picked for the public speaking finalists at Lucknow Central Public School. They are Alesha• Moffat in the intermediate division and Shelly Johnston and Ean Moffat for the Junior Division. Shelly spoke at the Lucknow Legion where she won third place: All 'the grades of the four, five and six •of the surrounding schools participated in this speaking. Good work Shelly: R. Frederick D. Andersen Fred Anderson of London, passed away at Parkwood . Hospital on Saturday, February 24, 1990 in his 78th year, He was the beloved husband of Phyllis' (English) Anderson, dear father of Michael. D. Anderson and his wife, Nan- cy ancy of" Guelph, and 'Dennis J. Anderson and his wife, Karen of Windsor. Mr. Anderson will be sadly. missed by . his grandchildren, Steven and Cassie. ' Ile .is also survived by his brothers, Bert of Alberta, • Robert of British Coluun bia, and a sister, 'Mrs. Earl, (Marian) Williams of Alberta. Mr. Anderson was predeceased by his sister,' Irene in 1988. Visitation took place at the Needham Funeral Chapel, London on February 26, where the funeral and committal services were held 011 Tuesday at 11 amt. with the Rev. J. Murdo Pollock officiating.
