Wrestlers
no -rinds
or actors?
On a recent weekend I found myself af-
flicted
fflicted with a malady that puts me down
and out for the count, Unable to function
normally, I simply laid the old body
down on the couch, turned on the bube
tube and looked for something that would
not tax the grey matter. Being .a Satur-
day afternoon, the choices were not that
great, especially when you can only tune
in channel 8, 10 or 13.
With the use of the remote, the choices
flashed past. and I found myself forced to
stop when my- eyes and ears. were
assaulted by a humungous like creature,
spewing forth illiterate squawkings
demanding vengeance! Yes folks, I bad
tuned into World Wrestling Federation. I
had never actually watched this program
and believe me, I don't intend to watch
it again, but feeling ,as lousy as. I did I
figured it wouldn't take a. lot of concen-
tration to follow what was going on.
I will attest to the fact that all .of the
wrestlers I viewed, in that' .thankfully
short time left in the, program, were.
muscular to say the least. The results of
their pumping iron and working out were
quite evident. 'What was not evident was
if any of them have anything between the
ears.
As Mr. Perfect,. The Rockers, Demoli-
tion, Rick' MarteVand Brutus the Barber
Beefcake mouthed off or displayed their
wrestling techniques in the ring, another
wimp like character, The Genius, in long
black robe and motarboard, provided a.
running ' commentary, loaded with sar-
casm and what hethought was. wit.
The Rockers, a tag team, ' strutted down
the aisle to rock . music that one would
associate with a disco: The female fans,
including 'quite a few teenagers, scream
ed with joy when they entered the ring
and *removed their outer clothing . Kind of
me reminded of the reaction Elvis got
when: he swivelled his hips.
Demolition, another tag team lorded

to the ring connplete with what I will Ball
gladiator type masks and jackets. I
figured they wouldn't remove their
Masks, alas, they did, unfortunately. I
was then looking at painted faces. These
two muscular samples are known as Axe
and Smash! Need 1 say more?
Long-haired, . Rick Martel, looks like a
model, complete with dark glasses and
fancy clothing. I didn't see hon fight, but
am privileged to listen to him egotistical-
ly spout off about upcoming shows and
what he's going to do to some other
wrestler. Martel is apparently known now
as "The New and Nasty Rick Martel".
Whether nasty is new for him or not I
couldn't say. He was recently quoted as
saying, "I'm the sexiest wrestler in the
W.W.F., I have the greatest body,. the
men are insanely jealous of me and the
women all drool when I'm around." He
certainly thinks a lot of.hiniself! His eyes.
are. set on someone called the Ultimate
Warrior, and he maintains he's not afraid
of him, saying, "I'll catch him off guard
one night and escape with the belt."
Well Rick baby, you may have' no fear
of the Ultimate Warrior, but from what
Brutus the Barber Beefcake said follow-
ing your little speech, I'd watch out for
those scissors he carries around. I mean
really, if the last time he simply cut up
your. lovely clothing, you. should take
heed to his waning of what he'll do, to
you the neat time you meet. This Brutus
guy gets his jollies from putting his op-
ponents in sleeper lock and then pro-
ceeding to give' them .a haircut,• no
charge.
I really wonder if all of these wrestlers.
are the no -minds they appear to be, or is
it all hype. I guess it doesn't really mat-
ter to their fans, and. fans they appear to
have in considerable numbers. '
Some call wrestling entertainment, and
who I am to. ..say any different. I get a
kick out of the soap stories. To each their
own!

SENTINEL MEMOIRS
WITH, SWEEPING MAJORITIF,.S- No
' by-laws ever .submitted to the ratepayers
of Lucknow met with more complete en-
dorsation than those voted on on Monday
of this week.
On the enabling by -law the vote stood:
Yes, 184; No, 2 and on the money . by-
,laws 185 voted for 'and only one .against.
The south side was •. solid for the two
by-laws;
It is said to'. say that those' who voted
against the by-laws, did not understand
very well what they were voting' for.
Conslidering the rather disagreeable
day, and that little effort was made to
getthe vote out, the percentage ofvotes
which came to the polls was large. There
was no question as to where the people
of Lucknow; stand as to getting current.
from the Hydro Commission:
Engineer Flint, who, was here on
Thursday night of last week to give infor-
• mation regarding the proposed extensions
of the - Hydro system, throughout Bruce
County, proved a very good man. He is
thoroughly posted and gave intelligent
answers to all questions. If nothing quite.
unexpected . develops . and present. plans
are carried out, Lucknow will have a
• supply of Hydro current' early next fall.
As to the cost of domestic service; Mr.
Flint said that an idea could be had from
the experience of another town where -the
price per - horse power is the same as it
will be here. In that place, hesaid, the
average cost- of .lighting houses is $I.13
per month.

BURNS. NIGHT BRINGS 'INEVITABLE
STORM One would have thought that
the blow of the previous week would have
"cleared the air" for Bobby Burn's night
with which a storm is traditionally
associated. But such was not the .case.
Up to five o'clock that afternoon 'the
weather was fine, when an exceptionally
heavy snowfall commenced, continuing
for the greater part of the night. Visibili-
ty was almost nil and the knowledge of
what would happen if the wind got up,
with road conditions as they are, had the .
effectof curtailing the crowds attending
the Lucknow-Kincardine hockey match
and the dancethat followed. In 'spite- of
this both.were well patronized. •

SILVERWOODS CLOSE DOWNTOWN
BRANCH - Silverwood Dairies Ltd. have
closed their downtovm branch, as of to-
day February 3rd. All business will now
be conducted from the main plant 'on
Havelock St. north. •The retail . store ;downtown with egg
grading and cream and milk testing
facilities goes back many years in the
businesslife, of Lucknow. It was geared
• for the horse and . buggy days when it
was important tohave a convenient loca-
tion downtown. However in recent years,
' it has not made for a smooth - operation -
with the'business under two roofs, and
planshave been underway for some time
to locate the downtown operation in the
main plant - at - the "station".
Employees in the egg grading division
left the downtown plant about two months
ago. A newautomaticwasher and grader
was installed at the Cargill branch of
Silverwoods to streamline this operation.
Eggs are now received at the Havelock
St. plant and may ;be purchased, there by
the public as they were before,downtown.. •
Leonard MacDonald was the last to go
from the downtown branch and he will
now do the testing work at the main
plant. The downtown building.is being of-
fered for sale.
A fire in November of 1945 destroyed
the previous Campbell St. branch. After
a short time located in. the Bill Reid
building on Main Street, the present loca-
tion of Glady's Beauty Salon, a new place
was constructed which has served since
that time.
