Just Another •Tractor is England bound
It took over two years, but playing a
waiting game finally paid off for an
English man, Dave Prince, Who is now
the proud owner of "Just Another
,Tractor".
Just Another Tractor, equipped with •
two V12 Allison aircraft, engines was
built by Art Hehn in the spring of 1987.
These engines were used in World War II
airplanes. The tractor made its debut at
the pull in Lucknow in July of that year.
Art and Dave met each other at the
Fergus pull in the • same year. Dave,
owner of Prinee Transport in Bristol,
England, is. an avid puller and was in
Canada .looking for a tractor. He spotted
Just Another Tractor and the, waiting,
game started, culminating last November
when Dave returned to Ontario and made
the deal with Art.
The tractor was loaded into a Russian -
container on January 24, transported by
JET Transport to the CN Conport in -Con-
corde, Ontario. From there the container
travels by rail to Halifax, NoVa Scotia. It
is scheduled to leave Halifax by ship on
February 2and arrive in Bristol,
England ori February 17.
In addition to the tractor a D75H
Lucknow snowblower was shipped , to
Prince Transport.
When Art's wife Barb was asked if he
would be starting on another tractor, she
smiled: and said she wasn't really sure.
Apparently last summer Art got into en-
joying cottage country arid a more relax-
ed pace. Time will t,e11!
Sheila Copps addresses Grey -Bruce area citizens
by Cindy Maloney
WALKERTON--Small-town Canada is a.
top priority for Liberal leadership con-
tender Sheila Copps, so Walkerton was a
natural stop on her campaign to . the
leadership convention in June.
On many occasions, Copps, 37, has
stated clearly that Prime Minister Brian
Mulroney "is killing small-town Canada."
She repeated it again to a full room of
Liberal supporters in Walkerton last
week.
"It started with the rural. post of-
fices...he contieued, his assault with VIA
rail which kept our country connected
from one end to the other. In% the last
five years the Tory policy seems clear
that the only place one can succeed is in
Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver."
Her promise. that she would not let the -
Conservatives close smalt towns in
Canada met with loud applause from the
standing room only crowd in the Bruce
Room of the Hartley House.
Walkerton is one of the first. stops
Copps, Hamilton East MP, has made
since declaring her candidacy for the
leadership two weeks ago. After speaking
and mingling with the crowd last
Wednesday night, Jan. 24, she spent the
night at the home of Duncan and Lillian
McCallum in Hanover. McCallimi. is the
president of the South Bruce. Federal
Liberal Association. Copps headed for
Harriston Thursday morning and then
went on to Toronto,
Before starting her speech, she walked
around all the tables and shook
everyone's hand. Those she missed the
first time around, she met later in the
night. •
Her address concentrated on the direc-
tion the Liberal party should be taking
into. the next federal election and on to
the 21st century: She spent little time
talking about Meech Lake and the free
trade deal, as she said they are Tory
issues and she wants to concentrate'on
Liberal issues.
She said she plans to centre her plat-
form around the Canadian people and the
quality of Canadian life. She said she
wants to make Canada "a ,level playing
field" for the children growing up so• they
can: do and be whatever they want.
'People chose our country to im-
migrate to because they were told the
sky was the limit. Well, the sky Is fall-
ing in on a lot of young people."
MEECH LAKE AND FREE 'MADE •
Meech Lake, though she supports it and
the Liberal amendments put forth on the
accord, ' is an issue she said that has
divided „the Liberal party.
,"I've seen us bleed trying to fight* Tory
• ideas and 1 want • to start fighting for
Uberal • 9s •me to start dreaming,
new Liberal dreams." -
Copps silent all last fall and early
winter travelling across the country to
"get a feel" for what the people wanted
before making her final decision to run
for the leadership. What she learned, she
said in an interview Thursday morning,
was the "grassroots people don't care
about Meech Lake. They're tired of hear-
ing about it."
Free trade is something people do care
about, she said, because their jobs are at
\stake. She has said, if elected she will
not tearup the free trade deal. However,
she said she doesn't want that
° misconstrued to mean she thinks the
trade deal is in any part good. It's -just
something she said she can't do much
about it for the next three years.
"The trade deal traded away out
solidarity. I'm just sorry Canadians voted
for a majority Conservative government
because unfortunately for the next three
years we have to live with the conse-
quences," she said Wednesday night.
