An artist painted a scene of a wintry
twilight the trees heavily laden with
snow and a dreary dark house, lonely and
desolate in the midst of a storm. It was a
sad picture.
The artist examined his work closely —
what could he do that would make this
dismal scene an appealing one? Then with
a quick stroke of yellow oils the artist put
candle light in one window. The effect was
magical. The entire scene Was
transformed into a vision of comfort and
cheer. The birth of Christ was just such a
light in a dark world. Many people would
disagree with the statement that Chris-
tianity brings light into this dark world at
Christmas. They think that too often Chris-
tians seem to be arguing and debating
among themselves, giving the impression
of hard feelings and distrust of giving com-
fort and joy... as the candle did in the ar-
tist's picture. It is sad that after two thou-
sand years, people still find it hard to see
and feel God's light that He gave to the
world, through Christ on that first
Christmas Day in Bethlehem.
To experience the true glow of
Christmas people must allow themselves
to be as receptive to our artist GOD, as the
picture was on canvas.
The problem is that we try to put this
glow in our lives, instead of allowing God
to do it. We don't want God to be the artist.
We want to do the painting ourselves. Until
we allow God to be the artist in our lives
the true glow of Christmas will never
clearly shine forth in the world.
The only way the artist was able to paint
a picture on canvas was by the canvas be-
ing receptive to his paints and ideas.
If we truly want our lives to be as appeal-
ing as the picture was, after the artist plac-
ed the candle light in the window, then we
have to be willing to receive and accept the
kind of picture God will paint.
The greatest gift people can give their
loved ones, as well as the whole world this
Christmas, is to allow God, our artist, to
place the true Christmas glow in their
lives. This glow is available to all but to
receive it we must take time to worship.
God does not force the Christmas glow on
us, we must be willing to receive it. The
Christmas glow starts with an individual
and then spreads throughout the world.
May God be given the chance to paint the
true glow of Christmas in all our hearts,
thus proving that Christ is the true light in
a dark world.
Merry Christmas to all and may the true
glow of this Holy season shine through us
all in 1988.
