Members of the Kairshea Women's In-
stitute enjoyed their annual Christmas
Party held December 17 at the Parish
Hall. The U.C.W. catered to the evening
with a lovely turkey dinner. The ladies
were thanked for their efforts by Mrs. Gor-
don Wall.
The president, Mrs. Haldenby, opened
the meeting with some Christmas thoughts
following the singing of the Ode and the
repeating of the Mary Stewart Collect. The
scripture reading was done by Mrs. Allan
MacDougall. A minute's silence was
observed in memory of a member, Mrs.
Peter Edisbury, who passed away since
our last meeting.
The minutes were read by the secretary,
Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall, and adopted.
During the Christmas program which
followed, several Christmas carols were
sung under the leadership of Mrs. John
Forster and Mrs. Vera Schmidt at the
piano.
Mrs. Gordon Wall gave a reading,
"Thoughts of Christmas". The president
had some excellent Christmas riddles
which she asked at intervals throughout
the program.
A humourous Erma Hornbeck reading
was enjoyed by all and read by Mrs. John
Forster.
Mrs. Gordon Wall also presented the
reading "The Santa Claus Myth is a
Treasured Tradition".
Mrs. Forster conducted a Christmas
bingo game. Winners were Mrs. Frank
MacKenzie and Mr's. Harvey Houston.
Bells jingled at the door and while
everyone sang, in danced Santa himself.
He sounded much like a favorite teacher
as he told jokes while handing out the gifts.
Some special Christmas songs were
sung by all and the meeting closed with
O'Canada.

Area residents were considerably inconvenienced on Tuesday of last week when a
severe wind and ice storm hit the region. On the 15th sideroad of West Wawanosh, a
huge tree came down pulling wires and hydropoles with it. Some homes were without
hydro from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. when hydro crews managed to finish the repair
work. John and Maureen deBruyn had a close call when a huge limb came down doing
some slight damage to their home during the same storm last week. There were other
reported incidents of tree limbs damaging vehicles and cars as well, but none ap-
peared tobe of a serious nature. (Pat Livingston photos)
