the true meaning
TO
Dear Editor,
What is Christmas? To many people it is
a time of the year when the sidewalks are
bustling with busy shoppers, stores are lit
up and decorated with brightly colored or-
naments. It is a time for exchanging cards
and gifts, Santa Claus and toys. It is a time
when friends and relatives we seldom see
drop in unexpectedly for a drink, gaily
decorated fir trees and parties. For some
an extra day that they have to go to
church.
Is this what Christmas is an about? This
is commercialism. A time to buy and sell,
to eat, drink and party, but it does not
reflect the true meaning -of Christmas.
Two thousand years ago in the little
Village of Bethlehem, a child was born in a
stable to a virgin maid. Christmas is a
time to celebrate this blessed event. The
birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Christmas is a time of sharing with our
family and friends, a time to show our
love. This need not be done with expensive
gifts or drunken parties, but by giving
ourselves in fellowship and being together
as a family. This is the true meaning of
Christmas.
Therefore, let us keep the Christ in
Christmas by sharing our love with each
other as he did.

Dear Editor;
No one will deny that charity begins at
home. The great challenge to our generosi-
ty as Canadians is to address the fears and
insecurity of those people whom we do not
personally know and who have no social
services to buffer them against hunger, il-
lness and unemployment.
In developing countries such as Mali,
Mozambique, Bangladesh and Nepal,
thousands of people earn less than a dollar
a day and live constantly on the edge of
disaster.
USC Canada has been heartened by
donations from old and new frienda across
Canada, but postal disruptions cut into our
Fall fundraising and we are still short of
our campaign target of 3.2 million dollars.
Every dollar counts a lot and is urgently
needed. Kindly send you donation to USC
Canada, 56 Sparks Street, Ottawa, K1P
5B1.
Sincerely,
John Martin

Dear Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank local station owners/managers who
participated in our project, Pump your
money into C.F. This project was a great
success, we raised over $2500.00 in zone B
that day. This research has been quite suc-
cessful over the past years. In the 1950's,
people would only live a year or two; by
the late 1960s they would live 13 to 15 years
and take 200 to 300 pills a day. Now the peo-
ple can live into their late 20s to early 30s
and take eight to 10 pills a day. In 1985 -the
researchers found the gene that causes
Cystic Fibrosis, a giant step in finding a
cure or control of this deadly disease. Only
through- caring people like yourself, will
the fight for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis be
won.
I thank -you again, and I hope we can
team up together to find a cure for C.F. in
years to come.
With the Christmas season fast ap-
proaching, my hope for you and your
families to have a very peaceful and
Merry Christmas.
Yours in on
Zone B C.F. Chairman
Gord Trecartin.
