The event serves as a culmination of the year's activities. Following a delicious meal of roast beef, several members were honored for their hard work and dedication. Andy Williams was presented with the Most Active New Member Award; Ken Morrison received the Most Active Non -Resident Member plaque; Audrey Patterson was honored with • the Most Enthusiastic Member Award while Linda Axtmann was selected as the most Active Member of the group. Club Queen and King, Sherri Lonsbary and Paul Pentland gave brief reports on the years activities. To support the club's activities, funds were raised through hard work, rather than through the soliciting of donations from the community. This year, money was raised at a dance held in May and at food booths set up at the Lucknow Tractor Pull and the Dungannon Fall Fair. Donations were made this year by the Junior Farmers to the Grey -Bruce Regional Health Centre Cat-Skan Fund; to the Children's Wish Foundation; to the Ronald McDonald House; the Friends of 4-H and to the Ontario Hemopheliac Society. Community betterment prjects for the past . year included canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation; Cartoons for Kids at the Lucknow Towm Hall during the Mare break; car parking at the Pork Congress. The group also organized . children's games at the Dungannon Fami- ly Fun Day and the Lucknow Fall Fair. The club's major project for the year was the Plant a Seed for Need program. Club members planted a tended a garden plot donated to them by Morison Berries. The produce was then donated to Huron County Family and Children's Services. The new executive for 1988 was installed at the annual loanquet as well. The West Huron. Junior Farmers are sure to have another busy year in 1988 under the leader- ship of theirnew president Audrey Ritchie. Happy 80th Jane! Jane Hamilton of Lucknow celebrated her 80th birthday over the weekend in style as freinds and relatives from far and wide joined her for a special birthday party. Mrs. Hamilton, born in Preston on December 4 eighty years ago, now resides at Luclanow's Sepoy Apartments. Follow- ing the party and the eating of the huge bir- thday cake, Jane departed for a holiday in Brandon, Manitoba where ° she'll visit with more relatives. (Rob Bundy photo) Grants for storage As many. producers are aware, grants are available from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food for construction of manure storage structures and for erosion control, projects. This .article will concen- trate on manure storage. All liquid manure storages are eligible for a grant of 40% of the cost of construc- tion including excavation ,and underground piping etc. to a maximum of $7,500.00. These storages .must be sized to . hold manure for at least 200 days. Solid manure' storages are also eligible, provided the contaminated liquid that runs off the pad or cattle yard is collected. This , usually means placing a concrete tank at the lower end of a manure pad or yard.
