Peewees trounce Mildmay
The Lucknow Pee Wee A's travelled to
Mildmay last week and proceeded to
trounce their opponents with a birage of
goals.
Lucknow netted 14 goals in the game
while Mildmay managed only 2.
Lucknow's Vince Strickland opened the
scoring after a lot of hard work .inside
Mildmay's blue line. Warren Andrews
picked up the assist.
Two minutes later, Andrews scored on a
back -hand shot assisted by Chris Steven-
son. Stevenson picked up another assist
after a good pass put Brad Rhody in posi-
tion to score. Stevenson had a big night as
he stole the puck at centre and went
straight up ice to score the fourth of the
night.
Less than a minute later, Stevenson
again found the mark with an assist to
Chris Humphrey.
Early in the second period of play, Justin
Murray stick handled his way through
three Mildmay players after receiving the
pass from Brad Rhody to deposit the puck
behind the net minder.
It took just 33 seconds for Lucknow to
strike again, This time, Brad Rhody found
the mark with an assist to Clint Murray.
The second period of play ended just as
Clint Murray picked up another point with
an assist to Matt Drennan.
Chris Humphrey scored a short-handed
goal to start the third period of play when
he deflected a Clint Murray pass from
behind the net.
Warren Andrew scored again after more
hard work by his linemates. Vince
Strickland took the helper on that goal.
Chris Humphrey took a pass from Clint
Murray and connected for the eleventh
Lucknow tally of the night. Shortly after,
Brad Rhody headed up a short handed at-
tack which resulted in a shot that eluded
the Mildmay goaltender. Chris Stevenson
picked up yet another point on the goal and
proceeded to add his own unassisted goal
immediately after.
The final goal of the night came from the
stick of Matt Sproul after Murray stick
handled his way to the net and dropped a
pass right on Sprouls stick.
The win was the third in a row for the
Lucknow Pee Wee A's. This streak came to
an abrupt halt on Friday night though, as
the boys went down to defeat to Clinton in
an exhibition game. The final score in that
game wa3 6 - 2 for Clinton. Chris Stevenson
was responsible for both the Lucknow
goals with assists to Chris Humphrey and
Terry Stanley.
Lucknow Bantams
The Lucknow Bantams split a pair of
games over the weekend. On Friday last,
the team blew a four goal lead to lose to
Ripley by a score of 8 - 7.
Lucknow had built up a four goal lead of
7 - 3 late in the second period thanks to a
hat -trick from the stick of Donnie Gam-
mie, two from Brad Murray and singles by .r
Rod Crich and Mike Vandervelde. This
last goal by Vandervelde was his first of
the season as a Bantam and occurred after
Gavin Hunter made a good check behind
the net and fed the stolen puck to
Vandervelde in front.
The Lucknow lead didn't last long
however as Ripley stormed back to tie the
score at seven as Chris Lowry and Jeff
Boettinger combined for four goals.
The third period of play saw both teams
looking for the go ahead point. Unfor-
tunately for Lucknow, they drew a
roughing penalty which gave Ripley's
Mark MacLeod all the help he needed to
beat net minder Allan Kikkert for the
winner.
The Lucknow Bantams were able to
notch their first win of the season the
following night as came on strong to beat a
scrappy Listowel team 10 - 6.
The first year Bantams showed they
know how to score as Mike Vandervelde
notched a hat trick, Dale Priestop added
two and singles carne from Gavin Hunter,
Dennis Park, Steve Rintoul and Pee Wee
Justin Murray.
It was Paul Helm's turn to weather
disaster between the pipes in the second
period as Listowel managed three quick
goals. Helm made up for the flurry by
allowing only one goal on the next 20 shots.
The team certainly feels some relief now
that that they have their first win of the
seson under their belts. The Bantam's next
home game is here on Friday starting at
8:30 p.m. when they take on , visiting
Tiverton.
Novice
The Lucknow Novice team travelled to
Belmore for their third contest of the
season. Lucknow's Ben Brophy scored his
team's first goal five minutes into the first
period.
Less than a minute later, Michael Puddy
scored from Lee Drennan followed by Jeff
Porter finding the mark and leaving the
puck behind goalie Colan Wright.
Belmore, a slightly smaller team in size
to Lucknow, certainly played a good solid
defensive game as they made it very dif-
ficult for Lucknow's offense to get in close.
At the other end of the ice, Curt Humphrey
made some key saves to keep Lucknow in
the game.
It was Ben Brophy who opened the scor-
ing in the second period to make the score
4 - 0 for Lucknow. Jason Metcalfe replied
for Belmore for that teams only goal on the
night.
Micheal Puddy ended the scoring on a
pass from -Ian Paolin. Final score was
Lucknow 5, Belmore 1.
Once again, the entire Lucknow team
put out a good effort to bring home another
win.
Last Saturday, Lucknow hosted the
Wingham Kentucky Nuggets in an after-
noon contest and were able to continue
their winning ways.
Curt Humphrey and Graeme Hunter
shared the goal tending duties in the big
win. The Lucknow boys played . a well
organized game of hockey and showed
great improvement in keeping onside.
Jay Humphrey found the net on a pass
from Colin Becker to put his team on the
board. In less than one minute, Brent
Cameron added a second goal on a pass
from Ian Paolin and Stuart Rintoul. This
ended the first period of play with
Lucknow taking a two goal advantage into
the second.
Five minutes into the next period, Geln
Ferguson scored unassisted and Ian
Paolin again found the mark from Brent
Cameron.
The third period saw Lucknow add
another five goals. The marksmen were
Michael Puddy, Trevor Moffat . and Luke
Sproul all unassisted with Glen Ferguson
adding one from Colin Becker and Jay
Humphrey, and Brent Cameron from
Micheal Puddy.
With ' just under two minutes to play in
the game, Lucknow took an interference
penalty as Wingham's David Laing moved
towards the net. Laing was able t beat
Curt Humphrey on the penalty of to
break the shut out. Final' score was
Lucknow 9, Wingham 1.
