Seminar in Ottawa this week.
Don and Alma Gillies attended the Golden
Anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs.
John Ferguson in Lurgan on Saturday. Don
and Alma also had supper Saturday with
Pearl and Stewart Jamieson.
Frances Watke and Catherine Scott had
supper Sunday with Morley and Deanna
Scott.
Purple Grove Community Centre had its
annual meeting Friday night. Don McCosh
and Angela Collins were the high scorers in
the euchre tournament.
Margie Lochhead, Shauna, Rachel and
Devon of Waterloo spent the weekend with
Kay Collins. They also visited with the
McGillivrays.
On Monday of last week, Ian and Meagan
MacDonald went on the school bus trip to
the Bruce County Museum, Southampton- to
see the dinosaur exhibit on loan from the
R.O.M.
Olive Needham of Lucknow visited with
Marj Thompson this week.
Bible study was held in the homes of June
Elliott and Anne McCosh.
Gladys Arnold visited on Sunday with Jim
and Joyce McEwan.
Lorraine and Wayne Kerr and Don and
Anna McCosh visited Sunday with Grace
McTeer in Owen Sound hospital. Get well
wishes to Grace from her Purple Grove
friends!
Don and Anne Mc h, Violet MacKenzie
and Lenore Hooey we dinner guests of
Mrs. Marjorie Reid of Kincardine this week.
Executive installed
The Presbyterian Evening Auxiliary
met in the church hall on November 17.
Mrs. William Henderson opened the
meeting with a reading which pointed out
that we, at times, wrongfully evaluate
God's gifts to us.
Hills of the North Rejoice, a new hymn,
was sung, and Mrs. Ramsay led in the
devotions from Rev. 21:1-5, which was the
basis for a Remembrance Day Theme.
After another hymn Mrs. Lloyd Moffat
gave two readings and Miss Maudie Fisher
gave one on Remembrance.
Annual reports were given by the
chairmen of all committees, the treasurer
and secretary.
Mrs. Gordon Fisher presented the report
of the nominating committee for 1988. The
presidents will be Mrs. William Henderson
and Mrs. Bert Moffat. Mrs. Frank
Hawthorne and Mrs. Ross Gammie will be
secretary and treasurer respectively. Miss
Maudie Fisher will be the historian for the
society.
Mrs. William Henderson closed the
meeting with prayer and a social time
followed.
The Lucknow United Church held their
Fall Thankoffering Sunday evening, with
Mrs. McFarlane opening the meeting with
prayer. A hymn was sung and Mrs.
Margaret Thompson read the scripture
and gave the° meditation.
The offering was taken by Mrs. J. Arnold
and Mrs. C. Cameron. Mrs. McFarlane
gave the offering prayer. Mrs. Leonard
Ritchie led in the Litany Prayer and a
hymn was sung.
Mrs. Gordon Cayley introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Arvilla Leis, a
member of the Women's Inter Church
Council, who explained the work of the
council and showed some very interesting
slides on her work. Displays included
newsletters, several study kits on regional
workshops, Bible study and racism. Mrs.
George McBride expressed thanks and
presented Mrs. Leis with a gift.
The Day Thou Gayest followed by
prayer led by Rev. McFarlane closed the
meeting and a social time was then
enjoyed.
