Local teams getting "good
effort" from players
Lucknow Novice
Lucknow's Novice hockey team travel-
ed to Clifford by bus last week for their
first game of the season and when the
game was finished, it was a trip worth tak-
ing for the Lucknow boys.
Curt Humphrey and Graeme Hunter
shared the netminding duties in the big win
and held their opponents to a single goal.
Lucknow opened the scoring in the contest
when Michael Puddy found the mark on a
pass from Stuart Rintoul and Ian Paolin.
Clifford's Troy Greenley scored
unassisted to tie the game before Paolin
and Rintoul once again set up Puddy for
his second tally of the night. Lucknow lead
by one after one period of play.
Lucknow was keen for more and came
out very strong in the second period to see
three more goals flash on their side of the
score board. Jeff Porter netted a marker
with help from Glen Ferguson; Puddy
found the hat trick from Rintoul and stuck
again for his fourth on the night after tak-
ing a pass from Porter.
The Clifford team had great trouble
splitting the Lucknow defense and the se-
cond period ened with Lucknow up by four.
Lucknow managed another goal in the
third when Rintoul scored with assists to
Jay Humphrey and Mark Kerr. Final
score was Lucknow - 6, Clifford -1.
It was a good solid effort from the team
and coaches Gerry Paolin and Steve
Hackett were happy with the play of their
charages. Coaches Paolin and Hackett will
certainly have their hands full this season
with this keen group of young men as they
help them with warm-ups, drills, skating
and play -making as well as helping the
young players to develop a sportsman-like
attitude.
Ripley blanked
The Ripley Novice team was in Lucknow,
over the weekend for the localteam's first
home game of the season. Curt Humphrey
handled the net -minding duties alone and
was rewarded with his first shutout of the
season.
Lucknow opened the scoring early on a
goal by Colin Becker. Trevor Moffatt took
the assist on the only goal of the period.
In the second period of play, Lucknow's
Glen Ferguson found the mark on a pass
from defenceman Luke Sproul and high
flying Michael Puddy got his name on the
score sheet with an unassisted tally.
Ripley's goalie David Farrell was kept ex-
tremely busy in the period and made some
outstanding saves for the visiting team
Lucknow managed three more goals in
the last period of play as Colin Becker and
Michael Ferguson both scored un-
nassisted. Jay Humphrey got his first of
the season assisted by Brent Cameron and
Lee Drennan. The final score was
Lucknow - 5, Ripley - 0.
Once again, the boys played well
together and are looking forward to their
next game against Belmore.

Lucknow Bantams
The. Lucknow Legion Bantams, under
the direction of coaches Gerald Murray
and Evan Helin, took on their Teeswater
rivals last Friday evening. The game was
a close one but the local boys came up on
the short side as Teeswater skated to a 6 - 3
win.
In the game, Teeswater opened the scor-
ing when the Lucknow defense failed to
clear the puck when they had the chance.
Lucknow's Donnie Gammie tied the
game thirty seconds later on a scramble in
front of the net. Rod Crich took the assist
on that one. The high scoring Brad Murray
put the home team ahead unassisted when
he got in close and slipped the puck under
the kneeling goalie.
Teeswater got back in front with two
quick goals to end the second period.
The third period saw the . Lucknow
defense caught up the ice a number of
times resulting in another Teeswater goal.
Rod Crich put the home team within one
when Gammie made a super play in the
corner to get the puck in front to Murray
and then Crich.
In the last minute of play, while trying to
even the score, the home team was again
caught out of position as Teeswater
responded with two to end the game 6 - 3.
The lopsided score does not reflect the
game completely though as Lucknow out -
shot their opponents 22 to 18. In spite of the
high number of goals, the coaches felt
their goalies Paul Helm and Allan Kikkert
both played solid games between the
pipes.
The Bantams are starting to pull
together as a team now and are beginning
to look quite good on the ice. It is hoped
that the two first-year lines on the team
can beat the freshmen jinx and come on to
net their first goal of the season as the Ban-
tams take to the ice for their next game
Friday night at 8:30.
Lucknow Pee Wee A's
The Lucknow Pee Wee A's had a big
night last Friday as they shut out their
Teeswater rivals by a score of 9 - 0.
Matt Drennan opened the scoring in the
game with an assist to Chris Stevenson.
Stevenson had a big night for the Lucknow
team as he came through with a hat trick
assisted by Rob Crich, Matt Drennan and
Chris Humphrey.
Mathew Sproul also had a good game en-
ding the night with two goals. Vince
Stricklend picked up an assist on one of
those markers with the other being netted
unasisted.
Stricklend struck for a goal of his own
later in the contest with an assist going to
Warren Andrew. Clint Murray made up
the balance with two goals assisted by
Brad Rhody and Duane Porter. •
The Lucknow Pee Wee's travel to Ripley
on Friday for their next game and hope to
maintain their winning ways.
