Sprn-off from agriculture was the call
Mrs. Sadie McLeod returned home last
week after spending a month visiting her
family members in Red Deer, Alberta and
ictoria, B.C.
Spm'iff from agriculture
"Name an industry which is a spin-off
from Agriculture", was the roll call at the
Ripley Womens Institute meeting in the
Legion on Friday. Hostesses were Adeline
Martyn and Margaret Scott.
President Minnie Lock called on Donalda
McLean who gave a full report of the area
convention held at Durham. Elizabeth Fair,
convenor of Agriculture, gave a fine talk on
Bruce and Grey counties. She stated that
Bruce and Grey are blessed with many
natural attractions. Bruce is more beautiful
than 35 years ago with many rare plants but
the natural beauty is threatened by soil ero-
sion on the river systems. Waste disposal
and sewage are big problems as is natural
pollution.
The. Rally report was well given by
Florence Kirkpatrick which she and Zilla
Hedley attended at Belmore. The theme of
the Rally was Home Sweet Home. President
Lock read an invitation to the opening of the
new Ripley library on Nov. 14th at 3 p.m. A
wreath will be placed at the Cenotaph on
Nov. 11. The hospital boutique is on Nov. 12

Eileen Carter. Adeline Martyn gave the
courtesies. Thanks goes to Margaret Gem-
" mell for this report.

Hedley, and Lorraine McPherson and the

Another thing to be noted this year is that
the field crops are moved to the lower west
Annex instead of having to take the exhibits
on entry away up those stairs. Mrs. Betty
Schmidt of Mildmay will have her sheaves
there which she showed at Ripley, and we
are hoping that she again will get the top
prize of $500 to match the last year amount
and its silver trophy for the championship.
