__ _ :mss ..:• Kinsmen are busy The Lucknow and District Kinsmen Club has been quite, active since resuming meetings in early September. The club netted $1200.00 for community service work from the sell out of 180 hockey pool tickets. Local winners to date include Joan Pollard, Ian Montgomery, Greg Hamilton, Jacky Murray, Grant Helm, Bertha Whit - croft, Bill Hunter, Greg Alton and Kevin Murray. The club recently hosted the Lucknow/Dungannon Slow Pitch League dance, with all 14 teams invited for the windup get together. The 43th Annual Lucknow Kinsmen Club Euchre Tournament, open to all 12 clubs in Zone B, to which Lucknow is part of, saw the Lucknow teams taking both the cham- pionship and consolation sides. Lance Sanderson and Lawrence Clark took top honours, while Jim Cranston and Doyne Ziegler were victorius in the consolation final. The Milverton teams were run- nerups in both divisions. Congratulations to our local winners. The Lucknow club is also involved in the "Pump your money into C.F." program, being stagedin all of Western Ontario this Saturday, November 14. This program in- volves approximately 100 different clubs who have approached their local gas sta- tions and, by volunteering themselves as workers, have arranged to have the ser- vice stations turn over their, profits for the day to help fight the battle against Cystic Fibrosis. This disease is one of the largest ' killers of children in North America. Locally Tom Andrew will chair the project and to date four stations have agreed to participate. December will be a very active month for the Kinsmen beginning with the Santa Claus parade December 5; Jingle Bell Rock Christmas dance December 11, featuring LOWDOWN, a Canadian recor- ding group, who are no strangers to this area (tickets will be on sale shortly from Kinsmen members) ; Ladies Night on December 16; Kin Kids Christmas Party prior to Christmas and the annual New Year's Eve Party at the Community Cen- tre (advance sale date to be announced). The club is committed to two major pro- jects in 1988. Primary concern is the in- stallation of lights at the Kinsmen Com- munity Park for night-time baseball and secondly, their backing of the Sports Com- plex drive. The club backs the spearheading committee and plans more projects in addition to the funds already donated. Profits from a Slush Ball Tourna- ment and dance in February will be turned over to the Sports Complex Fund Raising Drive. The annual skate-a-thon will be held in March to raise funds for the betterment of the community. Looking ahead will be the Bike Rodeo Safety Program in May and Kin Summerfest in June. Under the leadership of Steve Chamney, the club has added three new members - Dwayne Ziegler, Bob Gunter and Richard Stephens whd, have already made their presence knopim by their involvement. Although only 21 members strong, the club carries a heavy load of service work as can be seen by the above. As always, new members are very welcome. Plans are be- ing formulated to hold a 15th Anniversary Night in November 1988. It is hard to imagine where our small towns would be without the work done by service clubs, whatever their affiliation might be. The Father McCormack Council of the Knights of Columbus held, the installation of their executive at a Memorial Mass on First Friday Nov. 6th at St. Joseph's Church. Deceased members remembered at the mass were. Mike O'Neill, Tom Howard, Mark Dalton, John Franken and Bill Kinahan. Father stated he will look after the pur- chasing of the turkeys. He also thanked league members for saying the rosary before daily mass during October, which is the Month of the Rosary, stating the great spiritual effect the rosary has on everyone. In preparation for First Friday the Grade 4-8 students had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday, Nov. 5th. The liturgy for the First Friday Mass was prepared by Mrs. Barb Eedy's Grade 1/2 class. They were responsible for the first reading, the Prayer of the Faithful and the Offertory. They also sang a special song after com- munion. Father paid his weekly visit to each of the classrooms on Wednesday. Cub re a ort by Danny Hayden Another month has slipped past with a full schedule of activities for Lucknow Cubs. Our ranks . have swelled to 31 boys though not all have registered. This makes it the largest Pack in regent memory. The first weekend of October the cubs went camping. We were supposed to camp overnight at the Wawanosh Conservation Area but because of the rain, we slept in the Lucknow Arena. The next morning the cubslwent camping for the day at the Con- servation Area. The Cubs also had an Apple Day and Bot- tle Drive, along with Beavers and Scouts. We canvassed Lucknow, Dungannon and Whitechurch. Thanks to the people who supported us. We made birdfeeders at one of our meetings. It was held in Whitechurch at Messenger's Woodworking Shop. Now some of the birds will have feed for the winter. Thanks to Mr. Messenger. The last big event of October was the Halloween Party. We all dressed up and had a great time playing games and eating treats. wawnr4.¢wa, yc.4m•r,••;a,aeavra.m,'r.rv.w„-..wi.Q 0 Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, November 11, 1987—Page 9 BUYING BUSH LOTS and SELECTED TREES TOP CASH PRICES Try our Hardwood Slabs delivered in 17 cu. yd boxful for winter burning.
