UCW gathers
Unit 1
The November 3 meeting of Unit 1 of the
Lucknow United Church Women was held
in the Church parlour with an attendance
of 11.
Mrs. Grace Gibson welcomed everyone
and read What a Lovely Day followed with
O God of Love. The minutes were read and
approved, along with the treasurer's
report.
The rollcall was answered with a verse
on Remembrance.
The birthday jar was passed and Happy
Birthday sang to Mrs. Treleaven.
The collection was received and
dedicated.
Mrs. Gordon Morrison reported on a
very successful fowl supper, extending
thanks to all members for their help.
For citizenship, Mrs. Goodhue read In
Flanders' Field.
Mrs. Gordon Morrison continued the
study of the Apostles, choosing James and
Simon. •
`The devotional part of the meeting was
chaired by Mrs. Leonard Goodhue, open-
ing with God of our Fathers.
Psalm 46 was read by Mrs. Jean Conley.
Mrs. Goodhue gave a reading entitled
Perfect Trust and Perfect Peace, followed
by prayer.
God is our Refuge was sung and two
beautiful musical selctions played and
sung by Mrs. Edith Webster.
Unit 2
Unit 2 met at the home of Mrs. Eldon
Bradley on Tuesday, November 3 with 17
members, one visitor and two children
present.
The theme of the meeting was Remem-
brance and Peace. Mrs. Hunter opened
with a poem on Remembrance followed by
a hymn and a prayer.
Mrs. Hunter read a poem Of Those we
Loved on Earth, as, an in memoriam for
two of our faithful UCW members and
church workers, Hilda Ackert and Elaine
Irwin, who passed away recently and all
repeated the 23rd Psalm.
The rollcall was answered with a Bible
verse with `Peace'.
The minutes were read and approved
and the treasurer's report given.
Laura Hare reported on the visits that
she and Anna Mae Hunter had made dur-
irg October.
Mrs. MacGillivray reported that 600 peo-
ple, were served at the church supper.
The chureh bale will be picked up this
week.
Mrs. Black gave an interesting article on
stewardship.
Mrs. MacFarlance chaired the program
and opened with a peom on Remembrance
followed by a hymn with Mrs. Peter Cook
on the piano.
Mrs. Albert Cook, read the scripture and
Mrs. Bradley gave the meditation and
prayer.
An interesting Mission Study on mission
and service work was given by Mrs. Mac-
Farlane followed by a hymn.
Three letters were read on A Common
Thread of Remembrance. Mary Black
read a letter from Sister Mary Josephine,
a nun in Holland during the Second World
War. Ella Hackett's letter was from a war
veteran and Mary MacGillivray's from a
veteran's daughter.

write the song Precious Men. Miss Dufty
has made a recording which contains other
war songs as well. The record was greatly
enjoyed by the members.
Unit 3
Unit 3 of the local United Church Women
met at the 'home of Lois Walden last week
with 17 members and one guest answering
the roll call with the name of, a living
missionary.
Mrs. H. Houston, Mrs. Ron Alton and
Mary Loth were in charge of the program.
The theme of the meeting was `Missions'.
Rev. McFarlane showed the group how
mission money is used worldwide and sug-
gested that further information is
available in the magazine Stewardship '87.
Mary Loth told all of a missionary friend
of hers from Kitchener who is now in
Pakistan.
Mrs. Houston and Isabel Miller con-
ducted the readings. It was also noted that
the general meeting of the local UCW will
take place December 8 with a Thank Offer-
ing meting scheduled for Nov. 15 starting
at 7:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker,
Mrs. Arville Leis of the Women's Inter
Church Council. Be sure to add December
2.on your calender as that is the date of the
Choir Fest.
The next meeting of Unit 3 will be held
December 1 at the Sepoy Apartments,
Lucknow.
Unit 4
Unit 4 of Lucknow United Chur h
Women met on Tuesday, November 3,,,, ?ith
an attendance of 20. /
Mrs. Bob Campbell presided and read a
paper on the theme for he pro ram, Good
and Evil in Peace and War.
Enjoyable piano numbers wire given by
Jordan and Adelle Andrew.
Mrs. Clarence Ritchie gave the scripture
and meditation and a poe , ' on Peace.
Mrs. Campbell prsent a paper entitl-
ed, Playing for Keeps, followed with
prayer. Mrs. Alex drew spoke on,
Forgiving is Hard, /elating a story of a
Korean boy,. who went out to post a letter
and on his way ,Was beaten to death. The
story told 'of the,forgiveness of the boy's
family towards his three abductors, who
had committed this crime.
The group sang Let There be Peace, ac-
companied at the piano by Mrs. Gordon
Cayley.
Mrs. Andrew closed the program with a
prayer on Peace.
Mrs. Harold Greer, unit leader, presided
for the business, opening with a poem on
Remembrance Day.
The fall Thankoffering will be November
15. Mrs. Leonard Ritchie and Mrs. Cam
Thompson volunteered to assist in the pro-
gram. The rollcall was answered with a
current event.
Reports were given by Mrs. Stuart Col-
lyer for citizenship; Mrs. Cliff Crawford
for community friendship; Mrs. Gordon
Cayley for amnesty and Mrs. Ken
Cameron for treasurer.
The meeting closed with the mizpah
- benediction and a social time followed.

A Remembrance Day Service was held
Sunday in the United Church. The Sunday
School classes marched to place poppies
on a wreath at the alter. Helen Elliott
favoured all with a solo.
The beef supper held at the United
Church on Sunday evening was once again
a great success with a large attendance.
The Willing Workers have a box at the
back of the church for donations to the
Family and Childrens Services. New and
used toys are being accepted.
Mike and Val Bendig, along with Joel
and Katie, of Goderich, visited with their
parents Bill and Marie Park, Brad' and
great grandmother Gertie on Saturday.
Bradley Park, 13 -year-old son of Bill and
Marie Park, returned home Tuesday even-
ing from University Hospital in London
where he has been apatient for two weeks.
Brad is feeling much better now.
At the Senior's Cenfre on Wednesday
last, there were 15 tables of euchre. High
white card was Grace Finnigan. Low white
was Al Linskill. High pink card was Rober-
ta Linskill with the low pink card being...
held by Ruby McWhinney.
Congratulations to Dave and Dorothy
Bere on theWith of their new daughter,
Laura LouAnne Marie, born October 21.
She is a sister for Jennifer.
