We can all agree with these words of Patricia Fulton, President of the Canada Volunteer Award, National Selection Committee. Each year Federal Health & Welfare Canada search in all communities to honor individuals who have made a remarkable and continuing contribution in promoting health and social services in their com- munity. They need your help! I was fortunate to receive this award in 1984, thanks to the Goderich Legion for submitting my name. That year most of the recipients were from rural communities. The selection committee is uniquely made from the volunteer sector across Canada and give careful consideration to each nomination. I have a copy of the ap- plication form for this award, and would welcome calls regarding the criteria in- volved for submitting a name. Nomina- tions must be submitted to the Canada Volunteer Award Secretariate before December 1 each year. Voluntary organizations, community groups, in- dividuals interested in submitting a nomination, please write to the Secretariate, Department of National Health & Welfare, Brooke Claxton Building, Rm. 534, Tunney's Pasture, Ot- tawa, Ontario K1A OK9. Connie Osborn 524-7184 Goderich To the Editor: We are thrilled with the response to the UNICEF collection. A total of $890 was col- lected by students of Lucknow Central and Brookside Schools. Because area residents TO gave so generously, this is far more than double last year's total. Thanks go to the local newspaper staff for putting a UNICEF article on the front page. When people work together, the goals and projects of UNICEF will be accomplished. Lucknow CGIT members promoted the collection, counted and rolled the money (14,400 pennies) . They thank each student and each person who donated. You have a part in giving millions of children a better tomorrow. Laura Lee Cayley for Lucknow CGIT Dear Editor, The Lucknow and District Kinsmen Club are preparing a new fund raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis research. Most of your readers likely don't know, that one in every 20 Canadians carry the gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. C.F. is second only to cancer among health pro- blems, in taking the lives of children in Canada. There is no known cure, or control for C.F. This is where we need the help of the community. On Nov. 14 the Lucknow and District Kinsmen Club will be pumping gas at some of the local gas stations. The sponsering stations will have a sign saying, Pump } your Money into C.F. All profits of that day's gas sales will be donated for C.F. research. So please come out, fill your gas tank, and breathe a breath of fresh air into Cystic Fibrosis Research. Your local C.F. Rep., T. Andrew Foster parents were honored at a banquet hosted by Family and Children's Services in Huron County last week. Recipients of certificates included (left to right) Russell and Verona Snider of Zurich, George and Lorraine Brophy of Lucknow, Harold and Phyllis Parsons of Kippen and Albert and Doris Shilbe of Bayfield.
