Practice has begun
Choir practice has begun for the
Christmas season with the first practice
being held last Tues. evening, Oct. 20th at
St. Joseph's. New members are always
welcome to join; from elementary school
age children and up, boys and girls, men
and women.
The Youth Club, meeting at their regular
time in the school Sun. evening, heard a
most informative and interesting presen-
tation given by Mrs. Betty Lou Dalton on
how her faith influences her work in her
chosen career.
Several members of the parish com-
munity have been very busy renovating
and decorating the new Pro -Life Office
which is now located above the Park
Theatre on the Square in Goderich.
Volunteers are always needed and greatly
appreciated.
Last Wednesday several ladies from St.
Joseph's C.W.L. took their monthly turn at
visiting and entertaining the residents of
Maitland Manor in Goderich.
Another busy, busy week was put in by
staff and students both at St. Joseph's
School. On Monday, Oct. 26th Susan Bell, a
volunteer with the Huron -Perth Advisory
Board, C.N.LB. spoke to Grades 5-8 on
"Blind is Another Kind of Normal" Susan
is legally blind and shared with the
students her experiences and feeling in-
volved with her particular handicap. She
will be coming back at a later date to talk
to the primary students.
Because of another day of inclement
weather the Zone Soccer Tournament
already cancelled from the previous Tues.
and to be held last Tues., Oct. 28th was
again cancelled. The schools involved then
decided to pick teams to send on to the
finals in Exeter which were held Wed. Oct.
29th. The team chosen. to represent
Kingsbridge was the Senior girls who are
to be congratulated on their third place
finish. Thanks and congratulations also to
coach Mr. Phil Antonio.
Thurs. evening was a get acquainted
parent teacher night at the school. To
begin the evening there was a brief
meeting in the gym. Principal Sandy Mc-
Quillan spoke about organizing a P.T.A.
and also introduced the VIP Program. VIP
stands for Values, Influences and Peers
and was co-operatively developed by the
KINGSBRIDGE
Ministry of Education and the Ministry of
the Solicitor -General. It is an awareness
type of program, preventive in nature, in-
volving team teaching by a police officer
and a classroom teacher that is concerned
with values and standards the develop-
ment of self-esteem, a study of peer hi -
fluence, moral reasoning skills, decision
making, and the rule of law. This program
is being offered to Grades 6-8.
Grade 1/2 teacher Mrs. Bark Eedy spoke
briefly on the new Family Life Program
currently being studied by her 1/2 class.
socially and academically. He mentioned
how important it is to get good moral stan-
dards for our children in the school
system.
Afterwards parents had a chance to visit
each of the classrooms, meet and chat with
the teachers and, those who wished, were
given the opportunity to work on the
computers.
For the occasion the school' was
populated by life-size Hallowe'en dummies
made by the grade 7/8 class and decorated
with other Hallowe'en art by the other
classes. It was a most interesting and in-
formative evening for all.
Friday, Oct. 30th was a particularly ex-
citing day for everyone. The morning was
passed with the annual ritual of student
picture taking, while the excitement
mounted for the afternoon Hallowe'en par-
ty. The party began with a costume parade
by each of the classrooms and prizes being
awarded for the top 3 costumes in each
room; a task made particularly difficult
by all the excellent costumes. The rest of
the afternoon was spent participating in a
variety of Hallowe'en orientated games
and activities.
Students are now busy drawing posters
and doing other Remembrance Day
projects.
Father Ed made his weekly visit to each
of the classrooms as well. He is always
eagerly looked forward to and welcomed
by staff and students alike.

Frankincense and myrhb may have lost
their popularity as Christmas gifts over
the centuries, but that certainly can't
be said of gold - especially gold
jewellery. According to Statistics
Canada, jewellery sales by department
stores represented a little more than
$78 million in December 1985. The
average monthly sales figure from
January to November 1985 was over $20
million.
