O.A.S.W.T. meets
The Walkerton and District Branch of
the Ontario Association of Superannuated
Women Teachers met on October 14 in the
Church of the Messiah, Kincardine, for
their annual Fall Meeting.
A devotional period was conducted by
Mrs. Victoria Emmerton and an 'in
memorium' for two deceased members
was presented by Mrs. Margaret Ruttle.
Minutes of the Sring Meeting and the
treasurer's report were read and approved
by those in attendance.
Several members commented on the old
textbooks they had brought for the book
display.
Mrs. Isabelle Parker, Paisley, reported
on the Annual Meeting she attended in Sud-
bury over the summer.
A delicious turkey dinner was served by
the ladies of the church and music of the
day was presented by Mrs. Lois Davey
who sang a medley of Thanksgiving songs
with Mrs. Doris Bradley on the piano. Mrs.
Bradley also entertained with her electric
keyboard as did Mrs. Violet MacKenzie at
the piano.
The guest speaker for the meeting was
Mrs. Fred Collins who told about the trip
she and her husband took down the
Amazon River. She also showed slides to
accompany her commentary.
For the next two years, the members of
the Paisley area will be hosting the
O.A.S.W.T. meetings.
UNICEF IN AFRICA
The drought -related famine has vir-
tually conic to end in Africa. But
some 14 million people still need
help. Over 3 million refugees are still
living in temporary camps. There are
also tens of thousands of orphans or
children who have been separated
from their families. In some coun-
tries, the rains have brought severe
infestations of grasshoppers and
locusts which threaten the crops.
UNICEF has an on-going pro-
gramme of intensive assistance to
sub-saharan Africa, providing much
needed help in primary health care,
nutrition and water supply. When
Canadians buy UNICEF cards, they
support this vital work.
