PESTICIDE STORAGE
Most liquid formulations are damaged
by frost and need to be stored in a warm
building. Unfortunately that is either in the
house basement or a livestock building and
a spill in either of those locations is a smel-
ly mess. Section 3 of the OSCEPAP IT pro-
gram provides assistance to construct a
proper pesticide storage in the form of a
40% grant. The storage must have:
- Concrete block or wood -frame wall
storage complete with roof and concrete
floor - appropriately sized to the farm
operation. No floor drains will be allowed
and the floor must be capable of containing
any chemical spill within the storage
building.
- Storage can be separate, adjacent to or
within an existing farm building not used
for livestock, feed or produce. Storage
must be well ventilated and adequate heat
should be provided to prevent freezing of
liquid formulations.
- Chemical storage warning sign (obtain-
ed from OMAF or Ministry of the Environ -
FARM REPORT
ment) to be affixed to both sides of the en-
trance doors) to the storage building.
- 1,000 -watt (maximum) electric heater
with thermostat (optional) .
- 12 -inch diameter (maximum) exhaust
fan.
- Light fixture.
- Door lock(s).
- Electrical hook-up from an existing
service panel.
Full details and applications are
available from OMAF offices.
