The International Secretariat has produc- en house ed, in co-operation with the Canadian Sec- otion, a documentary on Danylo Shumuk who was released in May 1987 and now lives with his familyin Vernon, British Columbia. This documentary will be shown at the open house. Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, October 21, 1987—Page 9 "Long Term Prisoners" is the theme for AI week this year. Before he was set free, Mr. Shumuk had spent 42 years in Soviet prisons because of his beliefs and political activity. The theme covers cases of long-term Prisoners -of -Conscience (POCs ), including "disappearances", administrative de- tainees, those detained after the expiry of their sentences and people subjected to pro- longed prison terms with short breaks over a long period. One of the long term prisoners featured as special appeal cases this year is Tsehai Tolessa of Ethiopia. Like Fekeda Hundesa, on whose behalf South Bruce members write appeals, Mr. Tolessa is a member of the Ethiopian Evangelical Mekane Yesus Church. He was arrested in 1980 and is still detained uncharged and untried. Al week is about people like Danylo Shumuk. With the help of all Ar groups throughout the world, AI week will focus at- tention on other long term prisoners who, unlike Mr. Shumuk, are still in jail.
