Grade 4 and 5
This week, Grade Four and Five made
Halloween pictures in art. They are learn-
ing about Canada and have started a new
series on environmental studies. They also
started subtraction.
Most people are still reading very hard
for those . prizes and apples on the class
bulletin board.
Grade 6 and 7
The Grade Six and Seven class are really
excited about painting two faces on a small
pumpkin, that can be :used as a centre piece
for . their • dinningroom tables. With the
planning stage completed, the painting
stage Will be much easier.
Grade7and8
Grade Seven and Eight are reading a
novel series, Midnight is a Place. Already
they have reached episode seven.
They are learning about survival in In-
dustrial England and are glad that we
don't live like that.
We went on a trip to Stratford last week
to see a play, Much Ado About Nothing.
Next week the skipping club will be
starting.
Grade 8
The Grade Eight class would like to con-
gratulate all the cross-country runners
that went to Kincardine to represent our
school.
Library
The library has been a busy place since
the Partners in Excellence Reading
Challenge began. Mrs. Maclntyre hopes
that everyone will continue reading all
year. Reading improves your mind, im-
agination and creativity as well as in-
creases your vocabularly.
Mrs. Lash, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Black and
Mrs. Maclntyre attended the Ontario
Reading Association conference in Toron-
to recently.
This weel5 the Houseleague leaders are
Italy first, Kenya second and South Africa
third.

—Helping each other
Farm
families are facing pretty tough
times in today's economic climate in
agriculture. Families are questioning
their future and just what they should be
doing. This is a very unsettling period for
families. Many feel isolated and are un-
sure of who to turn to for support. Having
someone to talk to who is going through a
similar situation can be very helpful. Self
Help Groups are designed to provide just
the support you need. Ideally, a Self Help
Group is made up of individuals who volun-
tarily form a group based on their common
experiences and needs. In this case, it
would be other farm families going
through a stressful, financial time. As part
of a group of about 10-12 people you could
share with each other your own ex-
periences, frustrations and fears. By doing
so, you can learn how others may have
coped with the situation. Just the support
of knowing someone else who is having an
equally difficult time, can help you
through this trying period. The Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food has
prepared a kit on how to start a self-help
group. Topics covered include, "How To
Get Started", "The First Meeting".
"Learning Your Resources", "Leadership
Guidelines", "Keeping Members Involv-
ed", and lots more!
If you are interested in starting, a self
help group or in belonging to one, you
should contact Dennis Martin, the Self
Help Contact for Huron County. Phone
482-3428 or 1-800-265-5170 to make an ap-
pointment as your first step in "Helping
Each Other to Help Ourselves! !"

Gradeland2
Grade One has been having fun making
pictures with seeds and maple keys. They
made their own story with their new
reading words. They found out about
evaporation in their wet and dry unit of
study and now they are learning about the
weather. Margo, Micheal, Joey and Jeff
have been our `Special Me' people so far
and they now have their own book to take
home.
Grade One and Two want to thank Mr.
Pike for his warm fuzzies this week. They
really enjoyed reading their stories to him
about Mr. Squirrel.
They were surprised when they opened
up their bean seeds and found a little plant
inside. Now they can hardly wait to plant
them and see if that little plant will grow.
Grade 2 and 3
Grade Two and Three are starting a new
unit on dinosaurs. They are big, scary
creatures that lived long ago.
On Thursday we created our own orange
pumpkins for Halloween.
The class is very proud of Jonathon
MacKinnon who came in fourth in the
cross-country run.
Grade 3 and 4
The Grade Three and Four class is now
charting the progress of Mr. Dennis's
favorite hockey team, the Toronto Maple
Leafs. They are keeping track of the Leafs'
wins, loses and ties and the NHL
standings.
They finished their unit on rabbits in
reading class and this week started a
scary section about Halloween. In math
they did a section on fractions and learned
how to read a clock.
The class would like to congratulate the
Lucknow soccer and cross-country teams
for their fine showing at the South Bruce
competitions.
