Play it safe at Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving long -weekend has
traditionally seen a high volume of traffic
on the province's hiways as families
gather for the annual festivities or to close
down summer cottages for the winter. It is
also a time when many people drive to the
country to enjoy the colors of autumn.
During the 1986 Thanksgiving weekend,
OPP officers investigated 269 collisions in
which six people died and another 446 were
injured. Keep these things in mind as you
head out down the road with images of
cranberry sauce.dancing in your head and
drive defensively.
As a comparison, this past Labor Day
weekend saw 10 fatal motor vehicle ac-
cidents occur on provincial hiways. Last
year, six people lost their lives during the
same time.

Great support for cubs
Twenty-seven boys have registered with
the First Lucknow Cub Pack. Only eleven
of the guys were cubs last year and nine
swam up to thepack from Beavers. The re-
maining seven youngmen joined the group
this year looking for fun.
The leaders have all the tools to make
the quest for fun rewarding this season.
Along the way they hope the boys will
learn a bit about nature, people, com-
munication and themselves.
In an effort to provide a worthwhile pro-
gram for the boys, the ieders have relied,
and hope to continue to rely, on people,
parents and properties not directly involv-
ed in cubbing. We thank them and the com-
munity as a whole for the spirit of coopera-
tion and support.
We are attempting to use the senior
Cubs' literary talents to submit reports on
our activities in their own words this year.
Our first contribution is from Duncan
Mowbray:
The Lucknow Cubs have just started a
new year of fun and hard work. I should
know - I'm one of them.
On September 16, we started the year off
with new games and crafts. September 28
we tried out for our Athletes badge and,
boy oh boy, it was certainly a lot of hard
work !
On September 26 we had fun riding our
bikes at the Bike Rodeo.
