Whitechurch Veggies Whitechurch Veggies was the name chosen by the girls of the local 4-H club after they opened their first meeting on Tuesday, September 29 at the home of Mrs. Kathaleen Elliott. The roll call was answered by three girls with an advertisement they had designed for Ontario Foodland Vegetables. Kathy Dow discussed the A B C's of vegetable cookery and the different ways to cut vegetables. Each girl demonstrated a different way to cook veggies after which the members tasted and classified them. Mrs. Betty Armstrong talked about dressing up vegetables, marinated vegetables and the use of seasoned butter. Mrs. Elliott demonstrated stir fry fall veggies. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto and all were looking forward to the next meeting held October 5. A fortunate .delay An owner -operator working for Longhorn Distributors Inc. of Lucknow was lucky his pick-up was delayed last Wednesday. The driver, Reid Murray, was notified that the load he was to pick .up in Los Angeles on Wednesday had been delayed until Thursday. It was that day a serious earthquake rocked the city. Mark Gunter, a dispatcher, for Longhorn, was unable to contact his Los Angeles counterpart due to .aftershocks that bas kept the city in a state of alert. When contact was finally made on Friday, it was discovered that the load was ready to go. When asked -what an aftershock was like, the Los Angeles dispatcher likened it to beingin a small boat on a lake with ten foot waves. In other local news this week, a busload of ladies from Lucknow travelled on Mon- day morning to Hamilton to spent the day shopping.
