Nile team "A" champs
Defending champions Nile were suc-
cessful in retaining their Lucknow-
Dungannon Slowpitch League crown with
the completion of playoff action. After
finishing the regular season with a 12 win
and 1 loss record, Nile came up against the
Lucknow Crystalizers in the first round of
the playoffs.
Nile took the best of five series three
games to one and advanced to the semi-
finals against the powerful Port Albert
Pirates. Dile took this series three games
to two and then had to meet the Lanesville
Lords in the A Division final.
Lanesville had finished the regular
season with a perfect record of 13 wins.
Nile's only loss in the regular season was
to Lanesville in a game decided by a single
run.
In the championship series, Lanesville
won two of the first three games while Nile
battled back to win the fourth game to
even the series. Following two rainout
dates, the fifth and deciding game was
played on Sunday night with Nile emerg-
ing on top with a 17 to 12 victory. Both
teams are to be congratulated on their suc-
cessful seasons and for the high calibre of
play they showed. ,
The Lucknow Kinsmen team was suc-
cessful in its bid to capture the B Division
tile. They swept Holyrood aside three
games to none in the first round and came
up against the Lucknow Outlaws in the
Semi-finals.
This series was very close with the
Kinsmen advancing after winning the fifth
and final game in extra innings. Following
that close shave, the Lucknow Kinsmen
went on to sweep Benmiller three games
straight in the final.
This completes another successful year
of mens recreational slowpitch which in-
volved a total of 14 teams and approx-
imately 200 playsf. A special thanks
should be given to league president Greg
Hackett, treasurer Milton Turner and to
secretary John Hulley who formed the
three man executive which guided the
league this season.
The league would also like to thank
Lucknow Recreation Director Bill Hunter
for all his assistance and for maintaining
the diamonds.
The league would also like to remind all
players of the dance being hosted at the
Lucknow Community Centre on November
7. This dance is open to all players and
friends with the proceeds going back into
the community.

More. than 74 cases of animal rabies

The major carrier of the rabies virus is
the fox, of which 24 have been confirmed
rabid to date.

received anti -rabies vaccine to date this
year. Twelve of these were contacts of a
rabid pup that was brought into the county
