The sights and sounds of the U.S.S.R.
The Presbyterian W.M.S. meeting was
held last Wednesday evening at the home
of Mrs. Bruce Bushell with president Mrs.
Bert Thompson opening the meeting with a
prayer entitled `Expectations'.
The secretary and treasurer's reports
were given and approved. This wasfollow-
ed by the offerings and prayers.
Mrs. Weir Eckenswiedler had the devo-
tions from the gospel of John. Mrs.
Willaim MacPherson introduced the new
study book on Russia and showed a film on
the sights and sounds of the U.S.S.R. It was
discovered that Russia has 80 languages.
Almost everyone works for the state and
are, for the most part, atheistic. The peo-
ple are proud of their country and the Or-
thodox Church is the most popular. Older
women are a symbol of authority in
Russia.
The evning meeting was closed with
refreshments and a social time.
In other news from the community, Mr.
and Mrs. Don Gillespie had the Nicholson
reunion on Sunday.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
McDonald last week were Mrs. Ron Young
and daughter Debbie along with the
children of St. Jacob's; Mr. and Mrs. Bert

Bushell, Kingarf; Mr. and Mrs. Mac

they had to return to Saskatchewan. The
Kaufmans enjoyed their visit here with
parents and relatives.
Rev. Merelyn Letson, accompanied by
Mrs. Harvey Cooper, travelled to London
to the Consecration service of the newly
appointed Bishop Percy O'Driscoll. He
replaces Bishop Robinson who has retired.
We will also see more of Bishop Robert
Townshend who will assume his
ministerial duties in the east area of the
diocese of Huron. The Consecration ser-
vice was held at St. Paul's Cathedral,
London.
Sympathy is extended to the relatives of
the late Robert Orr who passed away at
the Wingham and District Hospital. The
remains rested at the MacKenzie -
McCreath Funeral Home, Lucknow with
the service in the chapel Friday afternoon.
Bill and Brian Percy are nephews.
Mrs. Tony Bedford and the girls, Mrs.
Ezra Stanley and Mrs. Tony Howald,
visited Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Stanley and Terry.
Sunday visitors with Edna and May
Boyle were Rev. and Mrs. George Garrett
of Kincardine.

Family here.

We are sorry to know that during the
corn cutting operations at the farm of
Stewart Lane that Stewart received bad
burns to his hands and face. He was taken
to the Wingham and District Hospital for
treatment. The burns were caused from
flames from gasoline. We send get well
wishes to him.
Mrs. Don Bertrand (Joan Percy) return-
ed to Simcoe after being here attending
her uncle's, the late Robert Orr's, funeral.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Van deKlippe on the birth of their baby son
at the Kincardine and District Hospital. A
brother for April and a grandson for Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Barr as well as a great
grandson for Mrs. John Barr.
