It was a jamboree in '83,
what will it be in '88?
The Lucknow Reunion Committee is
looking for just the right name to call their
big event planned for the summer of 1988.
The 130th birthday of the Village of
Lucknow needs a slogan and you are in-
vited to 'name that reunion'.
Any citizen of the area is eligible to enter
a slogan in the contest which will close Oc-
tober 19. The Reunion Committee is look-
ing for a catchy name and a design for the
biggest party to come to Lucknow since
the 125th reunion five years ago.
You'll find a complete list of rules in the
ad in this week's Sentinel. Cash prizes will
be awarded in each of three categories;
kindergarten through Grade Five, Grade
Five through Grade Eight and adults. An
additional prize will be given for the
overall winner.
Some previous slogans used in conjunc-
tion with local reunions have included
`Jamboree '83' and 'Let's Roar in '74'. The
Reunion Committee has great hopes that a
similar slogan can be found for next year's
event.
Take some time in the next two weeks to
put pen and crayon to paper and get your
entry in as soon as possible to Montgomery.

They ate a rainbow
1'
Grade 1
In Mrs. Bell class, the Grade l's have
been making r inbows with their color
words. We even a a rainbow. We had us-
ed Smarties to make color patterns and
then put each color inside of us. We decid-
ed colors make us feel happy, buddly and
joyful.
We have been printing A's and S's and
have started reading in our new book.
Grade 1 and 2
We have enjoyed working at ourreading
centres this week. It has been fun sharing
the books we made called 'Look at Me'.
Grade 1 and 2 had a special birthday party
for Johnny Appleseed since is birthday is
September 26.
Congratulations to Sean Lougheed for
guessing Johnny's birthday and knowing
that he wore a pot on his head.
Grade2and3
Everyone was very excited on Monday
morning as they noticed the chrysalis in
their classroom had turned black. At last it
cracked open and out crawled a beautiful
Monarch butterfly. We said goodbye and
let him fly South for the winter.
One Wednesday, Shane Petteplace
brought some M -M -M -M honey in a tray
from the beehive. Now we have the
stickiest, sweetest class at LOPS.
Grade 3 and 4
Mr. Dennis welcomes students arriving
from Mrs. Campbell's class. This week,
new reading and environmental studies
were handed out. We really enjoyed the
Phys. Ed. classes which we etre now hav-
ing three times per week.
Everyone did -exceptionally well in the
Friday spelling dictation and got to color
an alligator.
Garde 4 and 5
Grade 4 knows their -numbers up to
trillions. On a black peiee of paper we
stuck squares, circles and rectangles to
make pictures in art.
They decorated our room in the library.
In about six weeks we will be getting a
portable.
Grade 5
Work is progressing well. We are just
finishing up our first unit in math. Also, we •
are very enthusiastic about Environmen-
tal Studies as we have received lots of in-
formation on tourism and look forward to
hearing Mr. Allan on Thursday. To follow
up, we expect to visit B.N.P.D. on Friday.

Grade 6 and 7
Mr. Burkhart's classroom has one wall
covered, with the Fall Fair winners' school
work. It is a very colorful display with the
ribbons to show `first., second, third, fourth
and fifth place quality.
Grade 7 and 8
The Grade 7 and 8 class has begun novel
studies this week. Our eventual goal is to
produce a newspaper. It is our hope that
we will be better informed as to how
newspapers are organized when we com-
plete this unit.
Next week we'll visit a local cemetery
where we hope to discover a number of in-
teresting facts about our history.
Grade 8
The Grade 8 girls and boys are spending
much of their energy on soccer try -outs
and cross country practices this week. The
next meet is October 14 and we hope to br-
ing home some pennants. -
We've chosen.. our topics for -our
children's books so our writing will begin
next week.
Mr. Pike's Comments
Please cirlce Wednesday, October 7 on
your calender. We will be combining our
'Meet the Teacher Night' from 7 to 8 p.m.
with our registration time for adult night
school courses. Parents and students will
be able to see the night course being
offfered.
Our classes have now shifted and we
welcome Mrs. Mary Forrest to our Grade 4
and 5 room. Mary is _ from Wingham and
we're pleased to have her join us. -
On Tuesday we held our first house
league assembly and the students were
divided into Olympic countries ranging
from Agrentina to Venezuela. Each of the
12 countries then spent a half-hour learn-
ing about their homeland then shared
them with the rest of the school at a wrap
up assembly. The students mentioned how
interesting it is to belong to a country and
look forward to learning more about a dif-
ferent country while earning house points
through school effort.
