HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1987-09-23, Page 13The Father McCormack Council of the
Knights of Columbus held their first
regular monthly meeting after the sum-
mer break on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at 8:00
p.m. in St. Joseph's Parish Hall. A report
on the success of the Support Night for Neil
Stapleton was given. Brother Pete Dykstra
was commended, along with his wife Elsie,
for their letter to the editor in the local
paper outlining explaining procedures to
following for voting in the recent Provin-
cial election with the lack of a local Family
Coalition Party member to vote for. There
was a discussion about replacing the hot
water heater in the kitchen. Jack Tigert,
Eugene Frayne and Peter Martin
volunteered to serve on a committee along
with members of the Knights of Columbus
from Goderich to plan for the annual Oc-
toberfest to be held at the Saltford Valley
Hall. Father's remarks concerned a pro-
ject for the current Marian Year,
specifically building a shrine to Our Lady,
which the CWL had suggested and to which
the Knights pledged their support and
help.
At the Kingsbridge Playschool
Organizational meeting held on Thurs.,
Sept. 17th at 7:30 p.m. in The Kingsbridge
Community School (St. Joseph's) it was
decided to hold the Playschool once a week
on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:20 a.m. The
first day for Playschool will be Tues., Sept.
29th. The children are to bring a snack and
a drink for ,themselves. It was also decided
to follow a more structured format this
year with the children rotating among
three centres - exercise, games and crafts
each day. Shirley Knoop was pleased to
report that the Community School Com-
mittee has purchased 30 small plastic
chairs for use by pre-school age children
involved with any organization and
therefore available to them. As well, a
table is being made for use by the children
for their different activities.
Congratulations and God's blessings to
Bob Tigert and Lynne Rayon who were.
united in Holy Matrimony at St. Joseph's
Church on Sat., Sept. 19th. An open recep-
tion followed from 9:00 to 1:00 a.m. at the
Saltford Valley Hall.
Over at the school the children are being
kept busily occupied with work and play.
Already the junior and intermediate
divisions have begun practicing for an
operetta to be performed at the Christmas
concert. Father Ed was over visiting at the
school on Wednesday to welcome all the
children back and wish them well in the
coming school year. A dental hygenist
visited the school on Friday, Sept. 18th and
showed films in each classroom on dental
health. As well, she demonstrated proper
flossing to the children and presented
toothpaste and toothbrushes to the
students. Grades 3 to 8 also .had the oppor-
' tunity to view the Karate Kid, Part I on
Friday afternoon. Practices are now
underway for both Cross -Country under
the futeledge of Mrs. Jackie Simpson and
Mrs. Sandy McQuillan and soccer with Mr.
Phil Antonio. The Students Council con-
sisting of President Jennifer Redmond,
Vice -President Damien Martin, 2nd Vice
Tom Chilton, Secretary Tammy Hogan
and Treasurer Amy Olson held a meeting
to set dates for hot dog sale days, which
will be held once a month, and other school
activities. Obviously the student body and
teachers are keeping very busy.
The Parish Community's prayers and
good wishes are extended to Brother Carol
who is and will be .a patient in London's
University Hospital for a few weeks.
Storytelling
Have you ever heard of a `professional
storyteller'? Well, there is such a thing and
on Sunday, September 27th at the Lucknow
United Church, Helen Carmichael Porter
of Toronto will bring the Bible alive at the
Rally Day morning worship. She will also
conduct a workshop on this theme in the
church in the afternoon.
Storytelling has the power to challenge,
heal and transform individuals and whole
communities. Helen says sees her
ministry as an art form as she brings her
talents to churches, schools and prisons
alike.
No matter what your faith, you are in-
vited to come and hear how the stories we
know so well can be given new life under
the direction of a professional storyteller.
